I think it's fine and competently made but... all my critiques of The Orville (it's warm nostlagia, nothing we haven't seen loads of times before, reheated plots cobbled from multiple episodes) apply here.

Discovery season 2 is still peak modern Trek for me.

As we saw with Rutherford in an episode of Lower Decks: Starfleet is very chill about people wanting to try out new departments.

Considering how random this tweet from Sam Witwer (voice of Maul, Doomsday in Smallville, etc.) is and that Season 2 is filming or has already filmed (I'm not entirely up to speed on SNW's filming schedule), I'm going to guess that Witwer has already been cast as Sybok and he let it slip mostly unnoticed on social media disguised as a casting wish. (For what it's worth, Henry Cavill also "wished" to be Geralt from Witcher publicly well after he'd already been cast behind the scenes)

They're also going to do something that Henry says Trek has never done before.

That actually has more of an art deco feel that TOS was known for. I can totally buy that being a bar in TOS on some Starbase. The colors and shapes are really good.

Maybe their scripts to stop being like fan fiction or even better stop copying anything Star Trek (and not only). Write their own aliens, own mysteries and own stories instead of "borrowing" from everything sci-fi out here.
I love this cast and it is a shame they are trapped in recycling stories. I wish TPTB of the ST universe to leave TOS in peace and move on. Of course this is not possible for SNW... damn prequels!

Maybe this has already been said but it's now clear the "uniform change" was only for the timeline shenanigans of ep10. We could see a change somewhere down the line, but it looks like it won't be during S2.
