Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

SNW is so much better than DSC and PIC it isn't even funny.

It's easily the best and most coherent of the three, IMO. And I say that as someone who has also enjoyed both PIC and DIS in ways. :D PIC is incoherent at times and DIS has a good cast that often hasn't had the luxury of being given good scripts to work with. At times it's felt (at least to me) like the producers were just throwing stuff at the walls to see if it would stick.

There have been a few SNW eps that haven't been as good, of course, but overall I think they've had a really successful first season.

I love this cast and it is a shame they are trapped in recycling stories. I wish TPTB of the ST universe to leave TOS in peace and move on. Of course this is not possible for SNW... damn prequels!
TOS is the touchstone. It will always hold sway over Trek. When people start buying more outside of TOS then maybe, maybe, they will branch out.

According to The Ready Room, Season 2 is going to take more risks, play it less safe.

They're also going to do something that Henry says Trek has never done before.

New Lounge in SNW Season 2. They created it because the regular Mess Hall used the AR wall set, which meant it could only be used sparingly. Called the 'Port Side Lounge'.

That actually has more of an art deco feel that TOS was known for. I can totally buy that being a bar in TOS on some Starbase. The colors and shapes are really good.

Maybe their scripts to stop being like fan fiction or even better stop copying anything Star Trek (and not only). Write their own aliens, own mysteries and own stories instead of "borrowing" from everything sci-fi out here.

None of this is particularly observant, much less even close to true.

None? weird...
I thought they basically copied a whole TOS episode in their season finale.
Then they copied the finale of another ST series as their season finale
Lower Decks
Not to mention
Future Janeway meets present Janeway to warn her about the future
Didn't they even copy a movie in the previous episode?
Nah, I must be dreaming, none of this happened, their scripts are full of original ideas!

Yeah because 90's trek was 100% completely original all the time and never ever reused ideas.

Yeah, that's looking for a complaint where no valid one exists.

Get over that and learn to enjoy Star Trek.

I'll admit it's kind of cute to see complaints about a Trek episode leveraging an old Trek episode to tell a new story, when "Balance of Terror" was a direct steal from a Robert Mitcham movie.

I really don’t see the season 1 finale as a season finale per se but rather Part 1 of a 2 part Mid Season Two Parter but without the to be continued at the end.

I find it pretty amusing. Reminds me of a review of Lord of the Rings that spent much time complaining that Tolkien guy ripped off Rowling.

Exactly.

I always thought BoT was an homage to The Enemy Below, not a rip-off. Kind of like Pale Rider is the same story as Shane. Those are both great movies, and I never felt PR was a rip-off. But then there was Bruce Willis' Last Man Standing that was a rip-off of A Fistful of Dollars.
