Hey, I've long been on record saying the external appearance of the TOS Enterprise should have been retained for SNW and simply made more crisp and detailed but, yeah, otherwise I'm mostly good.
Glad we agree on it. Its my favorite. The next would be theTMP and of course the D.
Im surprised they changed it as much as they did. It would have been great to see those smooth designs for snw.
Yeah, I love SNW but the outside of the ship is something I'd have left largely unchanged from TOS and the Berman Era series. Change internal details if you want but the outer hull has been a thing of postmodern beauty for sixty years.

DS9 is the outlier - DS9 instead of DSN.

I’m on record as loving the TOS Enterprise. It’s my favourite ship in the franchise and a work of pure art. But it’s still a sci-fi design from the 1960s and would look out of place as a futuristic starship on a TV series in the 2020s. The SNW Enterprise solves that problem while taking into account newer additions to the franchise, namely Enterprise and the NX-01.

As ships go it is better than any Trek design. The Kelvin Enterprise is my next favorite. The rest are average.
Yeah it does. Ill do a simple deonstrarion on why it works perfectly. See below.
First we have the title of the series.
Star Trek Discovery
Now if we take the first letter of each word add separate them as demonstrated below.

Next we remove the lower caps to get
S T D
The final step is we put those 3 letters together and we get
STD
As you can see it works perfectly. It also serves to distinguish it from other shows as its taking all 3 letter from its title. Now we can do the same with Star Trek Voyager as if would be STV. Star Trek Picard would be STP. Much easier to type out these than the whole name.

Well shows with a longer time we can use the last 3 words. We coukd say STTNG but thsts a lot of typing. So keeping it to a 3 letter is much easier. So TNG is fine. Same with Star Trek Deep Space Nine. DSN is its 3 letter code. Some use DS9. Either works excellently. The thing is time saving. 3 letter are just the right amount.

^ I think that they're going with "ACA " for Academy. "ST" for Short Treks, although that breaks the pattern.
That makes no sense with the previous argument.
Previous argument would be STTNG. And then we say five is too much typing vs. three? This is asinine.

Yes, that is an exploding console. A quick and visual way to convey the message "ship is under attack and things are getting real!!!". Effective and simple. No need to change it for some silly reason like "but the technology!!!!!!!"Especially in situations were the captain orders the blind guy with a magic visor to look out window...
