Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

Voyager is VGR to me. No idea where or why I picked this up over the far more common version, but still.

The two-letter issue for Lower Decks and Short Treks can be circumvented easy by just making it LDS and STS, easy. TRADITION MAINTAINED

It's the abbreviation used in the Star Trek Chronology and the Star Trek Encyclopedia. It is my preferred abbreviation as well.

Imagine putting this much effort into justify the usage of an acronym that Beavis and Butthead would come up with and then snicker.
I truly believe that people don't want to be happy with their fandom. That, as Agent Smith says, people define their world by misery. So, even the supposed things bring joy for a fan must have a razorblade hidden within a compliment.

It's like a Quark/Iska relationship.

Disco should be called STD in order to be a cautionary tell for future Star Trek show creators. When you come up with the name of your ship avoid D names. Unless you got a creative way around it like Deep Space Nine.

Problem is it doesn't take much effort. I can't believe they didn't even consider the ramifications of naming a ship a D name.
This is even more pathetic than your usual nonsense.

TOS, DS9, VOY and ENT are all outliers there and STD doesn't fit with either the overarching pattern or any of the outliers. The only thing it has in common with these is being 3 letters, which makes it no different than DSC.
DSC is also the official in-universe abbreviation. It's written on their Shuttlecraft.
The Shenzhou shuttlecraft had SHZ on them.

VGR I believe appeared on some VHS releases, it's also the official CBS abbreviation.

LDS is the official CBS abbreviation for Lower Decks, and doubles as a comedic reference to Star Trek 4.

A Star Trek show doesn't get to pick their own acronym, it's whatever the majority of the fandom decides to use. Which often isn't what the people making the show would prefer.
