I read that article Tron linked back when it was first written and it still reads as pretentious as I remember. They most certainly borrowed from Kelvin. They wanted to do their OWN thing yet set it in the playground of prime preTOS/TOS era. ....they did and they definitely backtracked on a few of those decisions..(the awful Klingon Makeup and holographic commutation etc)

Man rereading that Article after all these years I can see they were just throwing things out hoping it would stick. Kind of like Abrams Ill thought out Star Wars trilogy ... ...

I actually did enjoy it because he goes on to say about how they specifically developed it for the Prime timeline in order to avoid stepping on the toes of the Abrams verse. Even if he actually did initialy develop a Star Trek story that could fit in either universe, he goes on to explicitly confirm that the show does indeed take place in the prime timeline and why that decision was made.

So I acquiesce on the point that he developed a general and vague enough of a Star Trek concept that could fit into either universe or even one of its own, but that article confirms definitively that by intent, Discovery does indeed take place in the prime time line. Thanks. I will refer to this article anytime someone tries to tell me that Discovery is an alternate timeline.

Picard had nothing to do with the Changeling genocide. That was Section 31, so i don't know what Vadic's beef with Picard was. Likewise, Picard didn't destroy the Borg , Janeway did, so the BQ's rage is misplaced.

Vadic didn't have a beef with Picard, he was just a roadblock to her getting Jack.

And the Borg Queen was insane and dying.

Aesthetic differences are utterly irrelevant. The story is prime universe. And it was from the first episode with very specific references. And it's hard to take a person seriously as an adult when they refer to the show as "std".

I'm the last person here who would be on DISCO's side about almost anything...

But, as sad as this makes me, seasons 1 and 2 are definitely in the Prime universe.

Seasons 3 - 5, because they take place so far past anything previously seen or heard in the Prime universe, can potentially take place in an alternate future. That, and ACADEMY, could be taken out by a situation similar to "Yesterday's Enterprise" by time travel shenanigans.

Or simply be a completely different universe, like the Kelvinverse is.
