I just feel like it was bound to break. What did they expect to happen giving an Agent, whose job is to find the truth, false memories that don't line up with reality? What was wrong with giving him memories of a slow recovery or something more realistic than just waking up in Tahiti?

Well, my guess is it had to be particularly happy or else it wouldn't overpower the extreme unpleasantness of the operation.

^That makes sense and in that rationale implanting a memory of any operation could have triggered his actual memories.

Seems like the involuntary catchphrase is what did them in. Just triggering a nice memory, would have been fine, but when you compulsively say the same thing whenever anyone mentions tahiti, it's gonna seem weird eventually.

of course it's TV, so they needed something external you could see/hear, but still, in-universe they gave him an OCD response, so...

I doubt they did it on purpose. It's just that it was a programmed memory, including programmed emotional responses, so there was a certain rote quality to it. The technique evidently wasn't subtle enough to create a more natural false memory.

The problem was that every bastard in the world wanted to talk about it.

Is Phil still hiding from level seven down?

I was quite rather expecting the big reveal to be that somehow Thor had taken Coulson back to Asgard and used the healing chamber there (which Odin spent most of the first movie in) recovering.

Wasn't that Odinsleep in his chambers rather than in a healing chamber.

Hmm. I thought they were one in the same. It's been a while since I've seen Thor, so I could be mistaken.

That's a great question. In the post-Thor episode, he tells Peter MacNichol he'll introduce him to Thor.

In the prior episode, he tells Ward the Avengers still think he's dead.

    So, uh, which is it?

If anyone in the Avengers roster is likely already in the know about Coulson, it's Thor.

    Remember Heimdall?

There isn't time enough in the world for Heimdall to talk about even all the interesting he's spying on.

Heimdall has some disturbing implications, if you think about it. Can he see women in the shower? Or is it like Google Street View where you only get embarrassed if you're outdoors at the time?

He'd be bored of that after the first hundred years. Besides, he's been looking at the human race since we were monkeys, and maybe sexually we were to him more interesting as monkeys and Heimdall's pants are not at all happy about evolution.

Well, they're supposed to be "like gods." Do people get disturbed over God and/or Jesus seeing them in the shower?

Well, obviously know since Fitz and Simmons aren't level seven. However, it does seem to be still compartmentalized/need to know.

Well, he didn't say he'd call up Thor right away and tell them. I would think that Coulson assumes he'll eventually tell the Avengers when it becomes necessary to do so and then he can pass on word about that Asgardian if time permits. I think it's clear both from an in-universe perspective and because they want to save the reveal for Avengers 2 that the Avengers don't know he's alive. Even SHIELD members Rogers, Romanoff, and Barton probably don't know because they don't need to know.

Maybe the Catholic Church bans masturbation becuase God told them that he was sick of looking at us strumming all day long?

Indeed. Heimdall's in the position that some people in SHIELD want the organization to be. Isn't he?
