Ditching camouflage is one thing, but having color coded tactical uniforms is quite another. In today's military, rank insignia is intentionally small and located in the same spot for everyone of every rank exactly to obscure who the higher ranking people are so the enemy won't know who to treat as a priority target, Likewise, saluting and standing at attention in the presence of a superior are suspended while in the field for the same reason.I mean, yes and no. I was recently doing some research on US and British military uniform history and the way they changed as weapons changed, which is how camouflage patterns came about, when weapons simply could over power the armor of the day. Starfleet and its contemporaries have a lot of technology at their disposal, not the least of which is sensors that can find, identify and pinpoint your location, and weapons that very powerful. Blending in to the background isn't going to do much if your adversary can still find you. So, they opted for color coded.
Maybe it's too British![]()
Having color coded tactical gear seems to negate the purpose of having tactical gear. All the enemy has to do is take note of which one is wearing a gold vest and declare them a priority target. Or anyone with a red vest as they're likely the ones with more combat experience.
On Disco, everyone wore a blue field uniform with no distinctive features for department with a black vest. Even medical officers wore the blue field uniform despite usually wearing a white duty uniform. That's a tactical uniform which made sense.
Yes, I know I'm getting too worked up over this.
