Discovery also seems to be doing well more than 2 months after the season finale. Yesterday it was the #2 show on Paramount Plus in the USA. Maybe new SNW fans wanting to check out Discovery or new Star Trek viewers wanting to see Discovery before jumping into SNW?

Spock's "We are not in a town" is right out of his older self's reaction to the lyrics of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" in TFF. Taking a human expression far too literally to comic effect. Older Spock is still recovering from being reborn after the events of TWOK while young Spock is just, well, young and inexperienced Spock.

That whole exchange made me laugh. Which is ridiculous but there we are. "When in Rome, Spock."

I’ve just checked the episode list for Discovery in preparation for my continued viewing of Discovery season 4. Strange New World’s season 1 is only 10 episodes long whilst Discovery season 4 is 13 episodes? Surely this is not fair? Why does Discovery get more episodes than Strange New World’s? Also, why did Strange New World’s only get a one hour long pilot episode when all of the other series got a two hour pilot? We can not class The Cage as the pilot for this series, or can we?

    I feel ripped off.

The year was less crowded when Discovery was last on. I remember reading that Discovery season 5 will be 10 episodes long, so they're giving every series a fifth of the year now.

    Nope, not fair at all.

    And?
Sure we can. Though, I think more closely it would be Pike's appearances on Discovery, and the sequel to "The Cage" that would be closer to the pilot.

Also, as is the trend, there will be about 10 episodes per season now.

I think it had something to do with its deal with Netflix. Now that it’ll be on Paramount Plus, it’ll be 10 episode seasons starting with season 5.

Well why didn’t Netflix want Discovery anymore? Surely they will lose subscribers? I bought the series via Apple TV btw, not Netflix.

More "Why did Paramount want to expand their subscriber services and not split revenues with Netflix?"

And I feel like the answer is painfully obvious.

But if Paramount+ only has Star Trek to offer as a selling point which has quite a niche following, if they don’t have anything else to offer other people they aren’t going to get many subscribers are they. There aren’t exactly loads of Star Trek fans in the world… I mean, I don’t actually know any Star Trek fans in the real world, just here on TrekBBS.

Paramount+ can not be maintained financially by TrekBBS users alone.

It doesn't only have Star Trek. But it does want to have Star Trek as an exclusive brand that people can't also get on Netflix.

It does? I guess Halo doesn't count then. Or Rugrats, or any other originals they are producing in addition to Star Trek.

The point is that Paramount doesn't want to share revenues with a competitor. Consolidation to their platform is what makes sense for their business. And I know of people who started watching Discovery and subscribing to Paramount+ because they saw it on broadcast TV or Youtube. It isn't just Trek fans, but people just wanting entertainment. They have to draw in from multiple crowds.

It might not work. That's the risk of business after all.

Paramount just wants to control their own IP, and not split the profits with another corporation if they can help it. The economics of streaming have changed a lot since CBS All Access was first being developed, and a co-production with Netflix isn’t as appealing as it once was.

Once they’re able to, they’ll almost certainly get the online rights to the highly successful series Yellowstone back from Peacock to stream on Paramount+ as well, and will most likely repeat the process with other Paramount owned series that have ended up on different streamers.

CBS produced content demands high prices, sometimes more than content providers are willing to pay.

On my cable provider, almost yearly, a scroll will appear on my local CBS channel warning viewers they could lose CBS if, (insert various cable or satellite content provider CBS is squeezing for more moo-la) don't pay up, call them and tell them to pay up to keep CBS showing or lose out.

All true, though ‪‪I think it’s worth mentioning that Halo’s a bit different, as it’s primarily produced by Spielberg’s Amblin, and is owned by Microsoft wholesale, so P+ is just its current host, and not necessarily a permanent home despite being a “P+ Original.”

Rugrats, the NCIS’s, Star Trek, Spongebob, Jackass, Mission: Impossible, etc. are 100% owned by Paramount, and they want to have total control of those properties ‪‪where they are able to.

It's because at the time Paramount was co-producing the series with Netflix; and it appears one of the contract stipulations was that a season was to be comprised of no less than 13 episodes.

Once Paramount ended that contract and co-production, for this coming and all subsequent seasons, STD will be limited to 10 episode seasons which seems to be the norm for all Paramount Plus series produced exclusively by Paramount.

Netflix didn’t cancel the deal, it was the other way around. CBS/Paramount paid Netflix to end their deal.

Ditching camouflage is one thing, but having color coded tactical uniforms is quite another. In today's military, rank insignia is intentionally small and located in the same spot for everyone of every rank exactly to obscure who the higher ranking people are so the enemy won't know who to treat as a priority target, Likewise, saluting and standing at attention in the presence of a superior are suspended while in the field for the same reason.

Having color coded tactical gear seems to negate the purpose of having tactical gear. All the enemy has to do is take note of which one is wearing a gold vest and declare them a priority target. Or anyone with a red vest as they're likely the ones with more combat experience.

On Disco, everyone wore a blue field uniform with no distinctive features for department with a black vest. Even medical officers wore the blue field uniform despite usually wearing a white duty uniform. That's a tactical uniform which made sense.

Yes, I know I'm getting too worked up over this.
