Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Killing my favourite character so early was the tipping point that ensured that I didn't buy the Blu-Ray, so maybe it wasn't that smart.
That's an odd reason. What if you want to rewatch the season but don't have access to wherever it's streaming?

The fact he was your favourite character makes that excellent writing, it means they wrote him well.

Had they just invented some one off character for the episode, it wouldn't have mattered, the audience would have had no emotional connection to the death.

That was the one I was thinking of when I made the post. Overall, I do not like the Gorn as a species and find their inclusion annoying. The episode with Hemmer's death was kind of just more evidence of poor use.

They felt the need to turn the guy in a rubber lizard suit into a CGI Alien/Predator ripoff. And the ironic thing is, the guy in the rubber suit was far better.

The Gorn ships were cool. The Gorn themselves, meh. Take em or leave em.

The thing that annoyed me about the Gorn ship was the same thing that annoyed me about that 32nd century Orion woman's ship. For some strange reason the producers feel the need to never show the ship in its entirely or give it enough lighting to actually make the damn thing out.

No. Gorn are dumb. I use to like them, but recently TOS rewatch, plus SNW and ENT took the wind out of the sails.

Mileage, etc.

To me, it's not about how dumb they are. Klingons, on the face of it, are dumb too. It's how they are used. In this case, they were just mindless killing machines like stereotypical sharks. It's a wonder they could even know how to construct spacecraft. The Xenomorphs sure don't.

These were Gorn babies who kill, the adult Gorn are also killing machines

It's not about their intelligence. They were dumbly used, horror movie style monsters. I have no patience for it anymore.

I wonder why Pike didn't go to bat for Una in the alternate timeline
or maybe he did and she's just destined to be imprisoned.
You don't see why I disagree with killing a character I like so early?

Are you serious, or just playing contrarian?
I just don't understand why it effects your buying decision. Refusing the buy the DVD won't bring him back, and unless you write a letter telling them why you're refusing, they'll have no idea that's why.

When a movie or series does things you don't like, it doesn't affect your buying decisions?

What does this have to do with anything? I just didn't buy the Blu-Ray. I'm not making a political statement.

So you purchase unpleasant movies and series as well?
Well you When a movie or series does things you don't like', not that the entire series and/or season was unpleasant.

I don't buy TV series or movies I don't like, but if there is something in season I don't like but I like the rest of the season I'll still buy it.

Well you said 'does thing you don't like', not that the entire series and season is unpleasant.
Movies and series are rarely entirely unpleasant. But as with everything else, you judge whether, on the whole, it's worth paying money for (and in this case I already had for the streaming service), and the death of Hemmer was a major factor in my decision, though not the only one. I guess you could call it the final nail.

Despite that I enjoyed the show and I will watch the second season, but it's not something I'll watch regularily so there's no point in buying it.

And there you go, if you had said that from the start I wouldn't have said anything.
What other point would there be to buy the Blu-Ray if not to rewatch it? And why would I rewatch it if on the whole I wasn't wowed by it? Why was all this explanation necessary?
