Agents of SHIELD. Season 1 Discussion Thread

Intelligence.

How Sawyer sees things is a cross between Continuum and Unforgettable, while what happened to him is basically if Chuck hadn't stolen the intersect from the CIA.

I'm looking for my wife who might be dead and a bad guy is Daniel Jackson from Stargate.

This show could'a been an 80s movie.

Duh!

This astonishing thing just happened.

I now have sincere respect for Alan Thicke.

Alan Thicke the Musician.

He composed the themes for the Facts of Life and Diff'rent Strokes.

I don't understand what is going on inside me right now.

It's so weird.

(I still want a weekend in the Cook Islands with Tracy Gold, shut up, the heart wants what the heart wants.)

ETA: I counted two hints that Mike Patterson is still alive.

First, they mentioned another subject. Second, they said "remains believed to be." That's good news for those who wanted him back.

On another note, can we officially bury the Po is schizophrenic theory now? :p

My first hint was when I saw J. August Richards' name in the 'guest star' credits.

And yeah, the schizo theory was totally mine and I was totally wrong.:p

I'm not very good at looking at credits, I guess. Helps to preserve my ignorance, although, once again, it clearly wasn't intended to be enough of a surprise so as to wait for some other week. The bigger surprise is what they did to Mike.

I like it that the "secret" SHIELD was keeping was merely Coulson's suffering during the resurrection. It wasn't something dark and sinister, it was an attempt at an act of kindness. Okay, maybe there's more to find out about how and why he was resurrected, but for the moment I'm satisfied. At least we can finally put the damn Life Model Decoy theory to rest.

I hope so.

And since we're operating on the assumption that Streiter and the second doctor weren't lying about Fury's role in this, I suspect that we're going to get another Jackson appearance out of this down the line...if only to see Coulson asking Nick point-blank "Why? And why me?"

I hope so. He was willing to do it once, so I bet he'd be willing to return, as his schedule permits.

I liked this episode a lot.

I had a nit or two, such as that the other guys Skye had tied up didn't just tell her to type her commands in her own damn self. The guard at the keyboard seemed awfully compliant, but I suppose she could have threatened them with The Fridge, too, if they didn't do exactly what she said, mwa-ha-ha!

With respect to the secret kept from Coulson, it wasn't just his suffering. Due to his suffering, he'd had a mental breakdown so severe that by the end of his resurrection treatments he was, in effect, suicidal. So, I agree with kitik. Besides just the mercy angle of expunging all the suffering, suicidal tendencies would compromise him as an agent, and they needed to be eliminated, too. At least that's what we were told.

Still the question is: why was resurrecting him so important to go through all that?

The brain-surgery machine was awesome, by the way.

Scary-awesome.

Given all the other stuff SHIELD's tasked with, they'd be coming across a lot of Mad Science gear of both Earthly and un-Earthly origin. Lots of wannabe-Erskines and Starks who ended up being more akin to Frankensteins and Mengeles instead in those archived files.

I forgot this show was coming back so soon. I'm wondering, is this episode worth watching? It sounds like they may have decided to stop focusing on Skye/Ward and actually give Coulson, supposedly a main character, an episode. I like Coulson and I'm interested in his story, its what kept me watching the 8 episodes I did watch. But, I skipped episodes 9 and 10 because the show was refusing to do anything but focus on the two most boring cast members while having generic stories that any spy or cop show could do, minus one or two Marvel specific references.

That said, if this episode actually has something to do with one of the only actual good characters in the show, I might have to watch it. I just can't find a good answer to whether or not Coulson's stuff gets a good amount of time, or if its just a few moments spread out in another bland, generic episode of The Skye and Ward Show featuring SHIELD. Wikipedia is no help, and I don't want to go through spoilers because if Coulson is finally getting some serious screen time for his own story (I'm not expecting answers or anything, just a good chunk of story where he gets the focus), I'd like to see it without getting spoilered. I can ignore/suffer through Ward and Skye scenes if Coulson has a good amount of stuff going on, but if its just a brief reference or conversation about him I'd rather not spend time on it.

Also, i know this is a continuation of the mid season finale, but I was able to find a summary for episode 10, and it was an easily skippable episode, and not seeing it doesn't effect whether or not the latest episode is worth seeing to me.

Uh, yes! Scary-awesome.

Maybe she was concern/scared the bracelet on her wrist would shutdown the computer (and it ties in with her using the golf club to dial the phone),

Which doesn't explain why the guys didn't bring up her doing it herself instead of directing them over the shoulder. We know why she didn't, but explaining to them could be awkward.

If the golf club worked, she should have invested in one of those you talk, it types doodads. A microphone would have heard her from that distance.

She'd effectively established her authority as Scary Government Agent -- and she'd taken their guns and tied them up. They weren't going to ask questions, or if they did, all she'd have to do is make noises about classified this and state secret that.

But how's she going to install voice recognition software on a computer if she can't work the computer for more than five seconds without it locking down? It would only work if the computer already had voice recognition installed and enabled.

And she untied one and had him switch places so he could type. Just so she wouldn't have to. From their point of view it must have been a bit odd.
