This episode prompted me to rewatch Casablanca for the first time in decades.
I've enjoyed it each time I've seen it, although in my opinion it's often a bit overrated. I still rate it pretty highly though, and I just saw it not too long ago as well! This episode prompted me to rewatch Casablanca for the first time in decades.
That to me sums up the issue. If you remove the b&w it has no bearing on the story. It proves that it's just a gimmick without the skill to back it up in the story.people keep saying this episode is gimmicky, but it really isn't? If you remove the Black and White it doesn't change the story that much at all.
Since when is this an illegitimate goal for visual entertainment? They do it because they think it looks cool.
This is Star Trek. Star Trek should not concern itself with looking cool. The whole point of Star Trek is that it's uncool. If I wanted to watch something cool, I'd watch sports or a Fast and Furious movie or something.Since when is this an illegitimate goal for visual entertainment?
)It should be a tactic to a greater purpose I feel, not the goal.Since when is this an illegitimate goal for visual entertainment?
If this is how facial recognition works in the future then I'd say most of us are screwed.I was fine with suspending my disbelief until she managed to fool facial recognition software and I was just taken completely out of the story for a second. But otherwise it was fine.
But it should be the aim most of the time.
The viewer. You're not watching for anyone else. You watch for YOUR enjoyment.Whose bigger purpose or flawless execution?

Whomever they want to write for that they feel is the right audience for their work and commercially viable.Which viewer are they supposed to be writing their stories for? As you can clearly see, Trek fans are not a homogenous group.
They're saving the Fast and Furious remake for next season. This is Star Trek. Star Trek should not concern itself with looking cool. The whole point of Star Trek is that it's uncool. If I wanted to watch something cool, I'd watch sports or a Fast and Furious movie or something.
