Although I thought the episode was okay, with callbacks to TOS like it's green and tribbles among others, it was probably the most throwaway episode I can remember of SNW. As much as I have come to love the characters and cast, that is quite a shame. The getting-to-know-you arc between Scotty and Ortegas was fairly well done if a bit sappy, but the overall story had too much stuff crammed into it to stop the episode from becoming a mess. A lot of pointless scenes shoehorned into a low level mystery ending up in a failed terrorist plot. Just too crazy for me, even though I enjoyed it on a patchwork level. Kirk actually being real was the only really nice twist to the episode--want another slap, Spock? I guess I'll give this overproduced, underwritten episode a generous 8. Not sure if the creators will have enough creative juices left to get a Star Trek Year One series off the ground, frankly.
