A personal transporter is basic equipment in the 32nd century...
A transporter is basic equipment in the 24th century used for mundane tasks like beaming in household furniture and considered the safest way to travel but its usage is restricted by cadets who were given an allotment of transporter credits.

It is standard issue to have a personal transporter for 32nd century officers but not cadets. It's like a car, they are basic methods of transportation and a large percentage of people have one but you wouldnt give one to a teenager unsupervised. And since you can't really have anyone regulate usage of a transporter built into the combadge it is easier to simply disable the function until they are proven responsible adults.

While I have many issues with the trailer (as I said upthread) not following the instantaneous site-to-site within ship transporting isn't one of them.

Ultimately, the decision to do that is the fault of whoever thought it was a good idea in DIS Season 3. It's an awful idea, dramatically speaking, because it creates the possibility of "get out of jail free" cards all over the place, and doesn't add any narrative complexity. It was just added because they wanted the future to look more "future-y."

The best thing to do is to ignore it, TBH. Much as Voyager ignored that they created a way to get home from the Delta Quadrant in Threshold, as long as everyone got the special beam to stop from evolving into salamanders.

Legacy has a lot more general appeal then Academy because Academy takes place in Discovery's future that comparatively few people actually care about.

The only reason we're getting Academy instead of Legacy is that the big person in charge wanted to do Academy.

Legacy hardly has a large appeal in the fandom. Hell, the biggest complaint (not from me btw) about season 3 of Picard was the amount of fanwank, and one of the biggest of those was Seven as captain of the Enterprise. When people wrote fanfic about that it was laughed at.
Legacy only has appeal to those fans who wish for Star Trek to be exactly what it was during the Berman era and haven't moved on with the current times.

People got a taste of Trek of the current times, they are hardly memorable.
That's why PIC S3 stood out and fans wanted Legacy.

But SNW is entirely Fanwank. Why isn't t anyone mentioning that except me ... 😂....even worse they have recasted several characters from previous series and films. Brought back one time alien species and characters from popular TOS and TNG episodes.

Picard season 3 had the original actors. Why is that Fanwank?? Seven becoming a captain??? So what! Reunion shows often are going to put familiarity in there for fans. I have seen it countless times with reunion shows. Leave it to Beaver, Bonanza, Father Knows Best, Green Acres etc etc etc.

Picard season 3 was not exactly the way we left Berman Trek but it was a nice logical progression. Not the weird lineage that SNW and DISCO have caused.

Anyhow it will be nice when the reboot starts. A nice clean slate. And I hope it remains a movie franchise only. I'm getting too old to be constantly invested in so many TV shows...

As a person who is overweight - I'm not particularly triggered by this being discussed in respect of Trek. I am easily willing to believe there is a future where physical ability and form doesn't particularly affect suitability as a Starfleet officer (Keenser, Ariam, Melora) but then we've seen phyisical fitness be a thing in the franchise too (Point of Light, Learning Curve etc).

As for the glasses - I am more interested in why Ake hands her frames to Gina Yashere (sorry, as a Brit I can now only call her that once I have heard she still has the accent we all got to know) when she takes them off???

It's okay to wank with a purpose, SNW wanks to bring much needed context to TOS and development for its forgotten or sidelined characters. Uhura probably had more dialogue in the SNW pilot than the entirity of TOS.

Picard season 3 was a meaningless wank, it turned a show into a shallow reunion with no real reason behind it at the expense of its own identity and cast. There was no plan for the show if the entire TNG cast wouldnt come back. Add in nepo mary sues, contradictory lore that tried to make Riker's Titan a Constitution, changed it but left it in the script and then made another Enterprise a Constitution and you just have a wank for wank's sake which is a dud wank.

Why did they even feel the need to flesh out characters that ended decades ago? Tv and even film were different back then. I would have rather had an entire fresh cast of new characters where i did not know their eventual fates. We know how Scotty ends up, Kirk ends up, Spock, uhura etc.

Im so ready for this reboot. 😂

Flaming
Are people here just genuinely paid by CBS or has their brains melted out of their ears completely and they have literally zero standards whatsoever? Genuine actual question because even rStarTrek, pretty much Paramount bot central is in meltdown over how awful this clip is.
There is so much wrong with this clip it's actually mind boggling, even amateur productions can write better than this
- tachyon interference, 100,000 km to port. Shows Tachyon interference 500m to starboard.
- Glasses and human obesity a thousand years in the future where it makes no material sense, especially in Starfleet which has always had extremely strict requirements.
- Modern day swearing and lingo 1000 years in the future.
- "Shields are down" *10 seconds later* "shields to front!" (being attacked from stern)
- Running around when they have personal transporters
- "Multiple injuries but no casualties" INJURIES ARE CASUALTIES YOU DUMB FUCKS *Shows the doctor with a FUCKING CASUALTY* (modern Star Trek writers, literally do not even know what the fuck basic words like "Port" or "Casualty" mean)
-"We’ve lost helm response" *ten seconds later* "Engaging in Evasive manuvers!"
Not even going to touch on the Video game tier CGI.
But you know, this is TrekBBS, the home of toxic positvity for absolute incoherent, poorly written garbage that wouldn't even pass in a fan film.

Imagine getting this worked up over a television show you're under no obligation to watch:lol:
