TNG's uniforms were only unisex in the first two seasons. In season 3 onwards, the men had two-piece tunic and trousers while the women wore one-piece spandex.

Horrendously ugly and asymmetrical that really were unflattering, much less practical for a duty uniform.

Enterprise had probably the best and certainly the most functional uniforms in the franchise.

What I will say though, they need to give Laan a different hair style than the mostly two braided cornrows she wears that always makes her look tense, tight and angry. Unlike Chapel, Laan feels like two different characters when she is in a dinner dress and her star fleet uniform. A Space Adventure hour and wedding bell blues, Laan sparkled. I would even say she was outshining Chapel.

They're both attractive women who are doing their jobs in the uniforms given to them. Neither the cast nor the characters are in competition with each other. Una, Uhura and Erica are all also attractive women who don't need to outshine anyone. It's an awful thought that you'd walk into your workplace and be judged as to whether you were able to outshine another woman.

In the episode a quality of mercy the finale to season 1, with alternate Laan, she looked great and did not feel like the same Laan from the original timeline. I would like to see them do more with Laan styling especially now that she is dating Spock.

It's neither neccessary nor desirable for women to change their look because they're dating. It's a terrible message for Star Trek to send that she should look hotter because a man has looked her way. It's a tired 90s trope that the a women turns into a gorgeous, attractive princess because a man is interested and she was hiding her true level of hotness all along.
