Season 4 First Clip

Don't also forget Jeri Ryan who played 7 of 9 from Star Trek Voyager in that robo babe suit which was a big thing in the 90s geek community and I would even argue 7 of 9 been a sex symbol ended up overshadowing the character itself. I heard Jeri still answers questions asked about that suit and the impact it had on young fan boys and Brannon Braga still denies why 7 of 9 was actually created which was to attract 18-35 men.
the juice is all here.
Which was a horrible decision. Fuck that. If that's the attitude then no Trek is not progressive.

Part of the first seasons of SNW was marketed on how Pike is sexy and has sexy hair.

2. the defence out-universe for why Spock has such an active love life is because ethan peck is hot so the writers cannot help but pair him up with someone.
Doesn't make it less stupid.

the age old quote.

sex sells. Gene Roddenberry knew this, that is why I agree that the TOS outfits for women were not realistic.

Also how stupid do you really think it is?

The fact is 7 of 9 became a very popular character, to the point that she came back for the Picard series and there were talks of her getting her own spin off show.

Would I dare say a 7 of 9 spin off show is on better life support than Year One. ah, the power of perfect casting that was Jeri Ryan in Voyager in comparison to Paul Wesley.

Also you can't say fuck that when in the end, they want good ratings and would do anything to get it.

So much for Trek for intellectuals.

Any claims to thoughtfulness is lost with this argument.

Doesn't change the huge double standard presented here, or towards La'an, the poor uniforms in the Kelvin films for female uniforms failing to show rank, or the absurdity that because something was used before it must continue to be used.

Trek has done exactly what Discovery and Picard had some before but those two were maligned. Yet, now, it's the "well it's always been done" argument and it is amazing now.

sex and attraction is part of the human intellect, just portray it well.

TOS Spock sometimes been portrayed as unattainable on the show is what also made him appealing to the female audience.

So TOS Spock was not only the most intelligent on the show, he was also the most attractive to the women audience. Nimoy got more fan mail than Shatner to Shatner's jealousy and you also know who got the most fan mail from women in TNG. Brent Jay Spiner who ironically played a android....Mr Data. Lastly no I disagree that the kelvin costume were poor. Laan is just styled to fit a different narrative.

Nope. There's nothing intellectual here about sex. I cannot agree on this basis alone.

If you cannot see rank insignia that is poor. That undermines authority. It's bullshit.

La'an doesn't need to be in more flattering clothes. She's the security chief. When you argue for Worf to be dressed more flattering then maybe I'll consider this as equal treatment. Until then, it's pure sexism.

Reminds me of another Singh and his inappropriate comments towards an officer about her hair.

This is interesting - one of the main responses viewers had to Spock in Discovery season two did seem to be "this guy's hot", so perhaps it did inform their writing of the character in SNW. Sadly I reckon the character's descent into acting like a 13-year-old boy might have nuked some of the appeal.

The point about Kirk being the intended sex symbol is interesting too - Shatner definitely was intended that way and ends up with his nipples out every sixteen seconds. iirc Chris Pine was framed in a similar way, though I've only seen those films once years ago.

It is unusual that Wesley's Kirk lacks that aspect of the character - not that he's not a good-looking man, I think he probably could fill that role if needed, but the writing and direction in SNW does definitely feel like it's avoiding that side of the character.
