Someone could trash the organisation I work for, I wouldn’t be taking it personally.

Ok. Then you are far better than the vast majority of people I've met. Disrespect is often taken quite personally, even directed at organizations. Sports fans are wonderful evidence of that.

Regardless, Picard doesn't deserve respect from everyone. Some on Shaw's ship may not know him. Shaw does, and was being bullshitted besides. Yet, he deferred in the moment.

    All seems reasonable to me.

I imagine Picard wasn’t the only one within Starfleet that felt the decision to let the Romulans die was bullshit. So perhaps not everyone is butthurt about his comments. And let’s not forget Starfleet has been into some very shady shit in the past too.

I’m not saying everyone needs to lick his boots, but to have everyone treat him like dirt every time he opens his mouth is a bit tiresome.

It might be tiresome but I also find it completely understandable.

"I use to be a big deal; respect me" is also a very tiresome attitude.

It would be a tiresome attitude if he were displaying it. I just don’t think he needs to be greeted with outright hostility every time he meets another authority figure.

Ok. Well, I think in his history there is reason enough.

And I’d suggest all the shit he’s been through over the years warrants a response other than outright contempt when he meets some mediocre captain.

And you may be right. That doesn't make it less understandable.

Also, the response of a captain does not mean everyone in Starfleet has disrespect for the man. And Shaw has more to him than just being a "mediocre captain," as indicated by his response to Riker and Picard's records.

Not every single officer is going to know Picard's full history like we are. They might remember the good or they might just remember the bad.

And, again, I don’t expect every officer to go all giddy at the mere sight of him. Just that it seems like every high ranking officer he meets wants to give him shit.

Shaw just seems, so far, like a bog standard ‘by the book’ captain who’s a bit of a dick to boot (going by the way he interacts with Seven). And the Admiral in S1 (can’t remember her name) is also just a massive arsehole.

So, two officers means everyone in Starfleet disrespects him? Interesting...

Admiral Clancy had a reason, and recanted and provided support when Picard provided the proof she requested in the first place, instead of Picard taking his ball and going home and then going on a public broadcast and trashing Starfleet. Shaw has his own history with the Borg, as indicated by dialog, so he isn't just a "by the book" captain but someone with a history that is reflected in his mannerisms

Picard has acted out of bounds enough that I understand why he gets some shit talking directed towards him. He is not a prince among officers that is above being called out for past poor decisions..

“I’ve had poor experiences with the Borg”
“Me too mate. But do you remember the last time a cube rocked up to Earth?”

I’ll just assume you missed these two points I made.

Anyway, we’re just going round in circles. We’re not going to change each others minds here.

No, I just am curious and exploring how we went from every officer in the organization to just senior officers to just these two officers. There's a story here; I'm curious to see it unfold.

That's not my purpose. My point is to explore your point of view. Thank you for sharing it :)

How many Starfleet officers has he had on-screen contact with since S1? Two? Three? Pretty high ratio of Officers to shit thrown.

Thus far, both of the two I've observed have reasons behind it. As I said, I may not agree, but I understand it because there's more history to it than just Picard as the sainted hero of the Federation. His most recent appearance as a former admiral, prior to the Synth planet mission, was to publicly shame his former organization. Even if justified that doesn't reflect well nor would I put it past people for looking down on him. Clancy at least sent a Starfleet task force when Picard showed that what he was saying actually had proof.

Shaw has his own history, and I look forward to finding out more about.

Sorry, but the officers throwing shit make perfect sense to me.

    Mileage will vary.

I find it fascinating, and want to learn more. There's history here and it is interesting, worthwhile in the exploration. That's why I watch things like this is to see people work through shit, not just kowtow to the heroes. That's tiresome.

I reckon there’s a middle ground between kowtowing to the hero and being openly hostile. That’s just me, though.

Shatner did just that in that dreadful "Star Trek: Generations", he dreamed to be in command of a starship 1 last time and failed to take command of 1701-B and later in the nexus instead of dreaming of being in command of a starship... he's stuck in a house in retirement... making breakfast for a make believe girlfriend. His death scene was equally pathetic for the character. All approved by Shatner.
