Anyone have thoughts on why the showrunners decided to put Sam Kirk in this show? Was it all just for the fake out in the pilot episode (which was kind of spoiled by the leak/announcement that James would be appearing in season 2).
They don't seem to have any focus for him in season 1. He could have just been any old Lieutenant. Outside of Sam giving some info on James in "A Quality of Mercy", he doesn't do anything that needs him to be Kirk. And even then, they could have had any of the other non-Spock/non-Uhura characters serve with Kirk on an earlier ship to give the same "briefing" to Pike. And wouldn't you think that James's brother is going to give you a less-objective readout than practically anyone else - for good or for bad?
I guess it was just all for that one gag in episode 1...
To flesh out a one off character.Anyone have thoughts on why the showrunners decided to put Sam Kirk in this show?
The mustache and Guy Fleegman references alone have made it worth it.
OMG! Where can I find these? Those are great. But the highlights of the for me are the other shows down at the bottom. Like this one has Riker2Riker. I’ve seen “Everyone Loves Martok”, “The Cardassian” about Garak, “The O Team” featuring Miles, Julian, Worf and Barclay.
So funny.
It'd be fun to watch you guys play M*A*S*H trivia with my hubby, who's also a huge fan. I'm curious how well the eps hold up though.Indeed. One of my favorite shows of all time and Colonel Potter's quotes are among my favorites. The "queasy gizzard" was a straight quote from the episode "Back Pay." Also features one of my favorite lines from Potter in regards to Hawkeye and Winchester: "Well, in case Hawkeye does go loco I'll make sure Winchester's back is on the mend. At least it's just his spine that's twisted not his brain."
I love MASH and my wife and I watch it most evenings. We enjoy the simple episodes and find them to be a good way to unwind. It'd be fun to watch you guys play M*A*S*H trivia with my hubby, who's also a huge fan. I'm curious how well the eps hold up though.
I agree and they definitely had a bit of a slapstick edge while later ones utilized more in situation comedy. It definitely takes on a different flavor. The earlier episodes are more funny.
They won't.Not sure how theyll explain in canon
Nor do they need to.They won't.
Lower Decks is bloody amazing though. You're really missing out, it isn't a kids show.OK, I have canceled my Paramount+ subscription. I am not really interested in the cartoons. I will be back when one of the live action shows (SNW/Discovery/Picard) is back.
I have seen the first 2 seasons of LD and I am not a big fan. It is entertaining but the pace is too hectic, the characters speak too loud and too fast (probably normal for comedy cartoons) and the main character is way too annoying. Once I sign up again I will catch up, but I am not going to subscribe just for Lower Decks or Prodigy.Lower Decks is bloody amazing though. You're really missing out, it isn't a kids show.
This does add context to Spock and Chapel having their moment in "The Naked Time(TOS)." Psi 2000 virus infections or not, Christine knows he's still betrothed to T'Pring and thus still unreachable, whatever flings he'd had in the recent past notwithstanding.
That's ok. I've cancelled my Crave.tv subscription as well. I'll wait next year to catch up with everything.I have seen the first 2 seasons of LD and I am not a big fan.
