Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

The Farragut, one of the few really good closeups of the ship.
I like it! I hope we get to see more ships of this era. That's one thing that TOS missed out on for obvious reasons. only ever saw Connies for Federation ships (hence people naturally assumed Farragut was one). But I'd like to see the TOS style reflected in other classes going forward.

I'm guessing we'll see the Farragut again in season 2 with a certain Lieutenant.

you know what kind of irks me? plot holes. most recently - Using a comet as a strategic tool. I know it's been done before, several times. and in my favorite episodes. But, when a cloaked ship is in space that is 823.429 gazillion light years across, why do they feel it necessary to enter a comet's tail and give away their position? I'm sure even the most inexperienced Captain would go around the tail. And why does fleet trust that the enemy is going to enter that tail? But even beyond that, what star is nearby that is causing that comet to ablate and create a tail?????
In both Balance of Terror and Quality of Mercy, the Enterprise thought they got the Romulans thanks to the comet but it backfired because the Romulans figured out what they were up to. So, it was more like both the Enterprise and Romulans used it tactically.

The bigger plot hole, as you point out, is that a comet in deep space (no nearby sun) won't have a tail. It would be just a small lump of ice out there.

The best Dehner was Carol Marcus in STID
Speaking of Carol Marcus, Since they picked a CW actor to portray Kirk (Paul was on the Vampire Diaries), I wouldn't mind a CW actress to portray a young Carol Marcus like either Katie Cassidy or Emily Brett Rickards.

I would like to see Gary Mitchell as well. Makes more sense though IMO that Kirk would bring Mitchell to the ship when he is in command since they are friends. Be nice also if Mitchell was related to the female Mitchell on current crew. Maybe siblings.

Having finished season 1 and letting it all sink in....

This was just a wonderful season of Star Trek. As much as I love Discovery and have enjoyed Picard despite its ups and downs, this really felt like old Star Trek to me. Going back to episodic format, no huge threat to the universe looming but short stories that basically ended and we moved on.... I didn't realise how much I as missing that in current Star Trek.

And the wonderful thing is, with different shows out there right now, there is a Star Trek for everyone's liking. How nice is that?

I disagree but I love the expression. Queasy gizzard is kind of cool. Don't know what it means exactly but it is colorfully unique enough to understand the context of what your saying.

Indeed. Any time that little nugget of dishonesty rears up I get a queasy gizzard.
It's a loving homage that comes from the right place. It scratches certain Trek itches.

Upset stomach.
