Strange New Worlds Season 2 Trailer

Keep in mind that really at no point in Space Seed did Kirk seem *entirely* unfamiliar with Khan and the "Supermen". I feel like he somehow knew about Khan Noonien Singh.

I dunno, I am not sure its as much of a canon trap as first appears.

Source: Watching Space Seed right now.
In fact, Kirk and McCoy and Scott all know quite a bit about Khan. They have a scene together in which, to Spock's horror, they discuss their respect for him based on his historical reputation.

SCOTT: I must confess, gentlemen. I've always held a sneaking admiration for this one.

KIRK: He was the best of the tyrants and the most dangerous. They were supermen, in a sense. Stronger, braver, certainly more ambitious, more daring.

SPOCK: Gentlemen, this romanticism about a ruthless dictator is

KIRK: Mister Spock, we humans have a streak of barbarism in us. Appalling, but there, nevertheless.

SCOTT: There were no massacres under his rule.

SPOCK: And as little freedom.

MCCOY: No wars until he was attacked.

They all know Khan's life and biography pretty well. I assume early 23rd century Earth schools are pretty comprehensive about the tyrannical shitbags who oversaw the last century of our history before World War III and First Contact. I'd be shocked if Kirk or Scotty had to be reminded who Khan Noonien Singh was.

Marla McGivers clearly knew who he was.

It probably didn't help that when they went into exile they probably scrubbed or didn't even keep any records aboard the ship. They were loaded into the cryostatis chambers and went to sleep and the only identifying mark about the DY-100 sleeper ship was its name. The last time anybody had recognized him as Khan Noonien Singh the former despot was the day they launched.

How many people have heard of Louis XIV? How many would recognize him without his raiment? It’s not at all surprising many of the crew would be aware of a famous historical figure without initially recognizing the figure in an unfamiliar (to the figure) environment.

Kirk didn't recognize Zefram Cochrane at first and neither did McCoy or Spock, though Kirk said he looked familiar.

Considering The Companion rearranged Cochrane's physical appearance (based on what we know from the ENTERPRISE historical record) in her attempt to save his life after his ship crashed, I'd say Kirk was lucky to see any physical resemblance to what he knew.

Obviously, She was a better at putting humans back together than the Talosians.
;)

I just figure that's what Cochrane looked like before the radiation poisoning and alcoholism. The height discrepancy, well, that's up to science to explain and it will fail. ;)

early warp drives did some odd things, apparently. That model Archer and his dad was playing with.. had been a life sized starship with two people inside an hour before.
