Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

There's a button at the bottom page that says 'show ignored content'.

I think that is the problem: when a thread starter is ignored, you don't see the thread and don't get notifications. The only solution is to unignore them ;)

So Celia Gooding seem to be getting the most critical acclaim in terms of acting, which will not be a surprise, as she is from broadway, very much like Patrick Stewart and she is a Tony nominee. I have read some reviews that said she will be the break out star and many young viewers will relate to her, though I still ask, How she still a cadet when chapel is PHD and Spock is Lt, Unless it is like the kevlin timeline, Mccoy is already a Dr and Kirk is a Cadet.
Chapel got an MD between TOS and TMP. Perhaps she had a PhD before?

The 'Watch Thread' button at the top of the thread will show you updates on the Watched Threads page even if you have the creator blocked.

That's good to know - I just look at notifications, maybe that page is better.
It doesn't show you new threads though, I guess.

Nope. You can simply watch the thread and get notifications. You still get notifications when people post on it even if you don't see it in the main menu.

I'm not sure if I should have asked this here or in the Trek literature section. Is there a novelization of the first episode?

I'll assume the Asian Mr. Kyle is related to the Kyle on TOS. After all, they're both transporter chiefs, so they could have studied at the same school with the same major. Maybe he was the stepbrother. Same goes for Lt. Ortegas since in the script, that was the original name for Jose Tyler.

First, there’s complaining about how polls are conducted. Then about who starts the episode threads. Yikes, people. Yikes.
They're disappointed @Commander Richard didn't get to start the thread, like he normally does. I can't say I blame them.

Even if I felt differently about the OP than I do, I'd still stay Commander Richard starting the threads is a tradition. It's just what's usually been done.

But, at the end of the day, a thread's a thread. I got into the thread and posted in it just fine. So to people saying "I can't find the thread!" "I can't follow the thread!" Save it. I hate the OP. And I'm able to follow the thread just fine.

I was curious to see who gets the credit as co-creators of this series. They could have listed Roddenberry as the sole creator since it is a series based on his pilot episode. But the listed creators are Kurtzman, Goldsman and Jenny Lumet. The first 2 are not surprising. Kurtzman is the head honcho, and Goldsman is the showrunner and reportedly the guy who pushed for a Pike series. But I don't know much about Lumet. I haven't seen any solo writing credit for her. She usually gets story credit as a writing partner for Kurtzman. Is she his girlfriend? or maybe just a writing partner he likes.

Don't you realize that even in a fictional universe this end (nuclear war) was manipulated? Please study the history of the Venetian bankers in Europe...[anti-semitic rubbish follow].

Keep that crap out of this forum. That was your one freebie.

OK, ladies and gentleman.

Lots of nastiness and lots of flaming. I've given out at least 3 warnings and it's been YEARS since I've done so.

1). It's only a show. If you're getting mad, step away from the computer

2). The mods here will clamp down on this. I don't want this forum about a brand new Trek show to become a cesspool.

3). So right now, my moderation will be hard-ass, meaning I won't be as lenient as I usually am. I've already tossed two people permanently.

The rest of you, keep on keeping on.

Back to Trek.

I mean, they can't because he's dead and didn't actually co-create the show. But "Based Upon Star Trek Created by Gene Roddenberry" probably applies with more force than usual. And of course a lot of the cast are either original characters, or are legacy characters about whom so little was ever established that they might as well be original characters.

She wrote the screenplay for one of the most critically-acclaimed films of the 2000s, Rachel Getting Married, directed by Jonathan Demme and starring Anne Hathaway, for which she received the 2008 New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Screenplay, the 2008 Toronto Film Critics Association Award for Best Screenplay, the 2009 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Writing in a Motion Picture (Theatrical or Television), and a nomination for the 2008 Film Independent Spirit Award for Best First Screenplay.

She usually gets story credit as a writing partner for Kurtzman. Is she his girlfriend? or maybe just a writing partner he likes.

She's a writing partner he likes. She's been married to Alexander Weinstein since 2007. Kurtzman is married to producer-director Samantha Counter. Why on Earth would you think Lumet and Kurtzman are dating?

Addition is great. Changing established backstory is not. Why does it have to be about minority or race? I would have been *beyond* happy with a big role for Captain Stone. I've never heard anyone complain about Sisko being non-white. I would fight and complain just as much if they recast him as any other race. NONE of this has ANYTHING to do with race. If they had announced this as a full reboot, you wouldn't be hearing the HINT of a complaint from me.

I can explain away the visual differences with time travel. This one has no good explanation, other than change for the sake of change, and contradicting what came before.

April was only ever seen once in TAS, which half of fandom doesn't gives a shit about or consider canon. This is a dumb hill to die on.

Or he is no relation and just has the same surname, just as many other humans do?

In terms of trivia, she's the grandchild of Lena Horne.

Also, her son appeared in season 2 of The Mandalorian.
