I was curious to see who gets the credit as co-creators of this series. They could have listed Roddenberry as the sole creator since it is a series based on his pilot episode. But the listed creators are Kurtzman, Goldsman and Jenny Lumet. The first 2 are not surprising. Kurtzman is the head honcho, and Goldsman is the showrunner and reportedly the guy who pushed for a Pike series. But I don't know much about Lumet. I haven't seen any solo writing credit for her. She usually gets story credit as a writing partner for Kurtzman. Is she his girlfriend? or maybe just a writing partner he likes.

In terms of trivia, she's the grandchild of Lena Horne.

Also, her son appeared in season 2 of The Mandalorian.

Also, I would be surprised by a novel dropping same day.

I checked Amazon and there is a novel based the series (but not a novelization of this pilot episode) available for pre-order but does not get released until Feb. of 2023.

I was just basing my question on the fact that it seems like the novelizations of the Star Wars movies come out pretty close to the release of the movies.

Yeah, I haven't follow Trek novels that closely but I was wondering if they did the pilot episodes.

Kurtzman is the head honcho, and Goldsman is the showrunner

Kurtzman is the head of CBSs entire Trek production division. He's credited on all the shows, including the animated ones, but that doesn't mean he's deeply involved with the story.

Goldsman is co-showrunner with Henry Alonso Myers.

Roddenberry was still credited as executive producer on TNG until he died but by 1990-91 was basically all but out of the loop on day-to-day functions on the series and really had no voice as far back as 1989 when TFF was made and released with his strict disapproval of the canonicity and story of the film. Being prominent in the credits doesn't always mean you have a serious role to play.

I'm beginning to believe that Alex Kurtzman should have never revived the Star Trek franchise. I think it was a mistake. Whenever the franchise tries something new, it wallows into inconsistent writing. I really enjoyed Season One of "Star Trek Discovery". But after that . . . the series gradually became something of a disappointment. I guess it has its fans, since it will be moving on to a fifth season. I feel the same about "Star Trek Picard". It starts out pretty good and then the writing tripped it up. As for this latest series, "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" - it turned out exactly how I had feared it would - old school Trek. Many believe this is a great thing. I'm afraid I don't. And yes, I was disappointed in the end.

Alex Kurtzman didn’t revive the franchise. CBS did. And they hired both Kurtzman and Bryan Fuller to create new Trek. We all know what happened with Fuller. Kurtzman is steering the ship but he works at the pleasure of Paramount. Let’s be clear about that.

CBS had a successful working relationship with Kurtzman based on several other TV series, and I imagine that his previous successful involvement with Trek on the big screen made him the natural hire.

I know that. I was talking about the co-creator credits, not exec producers. Kurtzman didn’t get co-creator credit on the animated ones. So unlike Berman he doesn’t insist on being involved in creation of each series.

Well, Kurtzman didn't "revive" Star Trek. CBS did. And I am very happy it did it

A modest proposal. If you don't like it, don't watch it. The old series still exist. Nobody deleted them from the space time continuum.

Putting the blame on one person is disingenuous. Bringing back Star Trek was a corporate decision. CBS Studios has the final say on whatever Secret Hideout does. Like @Serveaux said above, Kurtzman is a known quantity at CBS. No one said you can’t be disappointed. There’s enough blame to go around and the constant finger pointing at JUST Kurtzman is ridiculous.
