Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

CCN actually took notice of Star Trek.

Will wonders never cease...
(they interviewed Rod Roddenberry Jr. & Goldsman)

The new 'Star Trek' series couldn't come at a better time

;)
Did CNN use actual Paramount Star Trek footage and stills this time and not footage from a certain fan film; like they did the last time they did a Star Trek piece on Paramount's plans for the franchise?;)

Partially.
They used stock pic's from SNW, TOS & TMP.
(no video)

These early reviews have me cautiously optimistic. I grew up watching DS9 and VOY on UPN; later ENT. Those are my treks. TNG was before my time. Since then the nutreks have been disappointing.

edit. the most pressing question to me is whether the enterprise will have beam phasers or pew pew phasers

jk

No doubt SNW will be more the same.

I see the Robert April business in trending on Twitter and I feel paramount+ is kind of in the wrong here.

Had this been an alternate reality prequel than yes, robert could be black but SNW is a direct prequel in the prime timeline, meaning his race should not have been changed. he looks very light skinned mixed in TOS and he is white in TAS.

This is why people say nu trek is woke. I don't think this could should even be up for any debate like asking if Ceelia Gooding looks like Nichelle Nicholas.

most tv early reviews do tend to be good and most tv shows have good score on rotten tomatoes unlike movies, however I already some some reviews that makes me worried.

Obviously I will not fully trust reviews on trekcore and trekmovie, since those are trek website and will have to give it great reviews, especially for a series premiere. they will need to keep the good will for as long as possible.

He was never in TOS.

I think you're confusing that doctored image of Gene in a early Starfleet uniform from the Encyclopedia as a screen cap from an episode.

and will have to give it great reviews
You have clearly never read any of their reviews. When they think an episode is bad they'll say so.

Robert April has never appeared onscreen - or been mentioned - in TOS, so he could never have looked light-skinned mixed-race in TOS.

STRANGE NEW WORLDS is the first time Robert April has appeared onscreen in live-action form.

Yes, it contradicts the portrayal of the character in "The Counter-Clock Incident," so either the events of that animated episode didn't happen in continuity (which would've been the Roddenberry/Richard Arnold TNG-era position) or the events didn't happen as portrayed.

He's in TOS?
Well I heard he was, on twitter some fans are posting pictures of an actor who looks very light skin/Latino to defend that his race can be anything, although it seems that the most cannon interpretation was in TAS and he was white..

Oh well, another day, another race bending of some sort, While I dont really mind it, I never felt it was necessary. It is always better just to create new characters who are actually and originally people of color. Uhura and Sulu were perfect examples.

He was not in TOS. His race can be whatever they want it to be, given TAS back and forth status as canon and then not and then canon again.

None of it is necessary.

TAS got so many colors of uniforms and other things wrong I can still buy the two Aprils being the same person. I mean, the TAS Klingons had bright pink uniforms. I think we can reconcile the two. :p
The Klingon vests from TAS have always looked purple on my tv and monitor screens, not pink.
The TAS tribbles are pink on my screens. The Kzinti uniforms are also pink on my screens. But the Klingon vests are decidedly not pink, but rather the color of grape yogurt.

Well, that was your first mistake.
Maybe try watching this franchise you seem to be so quick to comment on.

Do it Memory Alpha style. "In 2270, the Klingons wore pink and gray uniforms..."

Robert April was NEVER in TOS and TAS is not canon. The only canon mention of him is in DSC's first S2 episode on the viewscreen.
