Until she's called Yeoman Colt in dialogue I'm assuming she's just an alien crewmember with spikes on her face. The idea that regular human Yeoman Colt suddenly becomes a spiky-faced alien just because is silly even for CBS Trek rebranding and visual retconning standards but hey, I could be wrong. We've seen worse from the producers.

In my younger days I would roll my eyes at the covers of Star Trek novels that would get the details wrong . Especially when I read the book and era didn't match the uniforms on the cover.

If the Discovery credits identify the Spikey alien as Colt, that's fine. But the credits of the Cage and the Menagerie don't ID the Yeoman as Colt, so there is no conflict.

Funny I don't remember that being in Kirk's opening monologue to TOS.

The reason they chose "Strange New Worlds" as a title is obvious if you ever watched TOS.
