Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Just because Wesley's taste in TrekLit doesn't inspire confidence in me (and I'd have more confidence in him if he were completely unaware of the existence of TrekLit) doesn't mean he wouldn't work out. After all, I was a bit dubious about Attico doing the Sisko "autobiography," and he turned out to be brilliant.

Currently Kirk is trying very hard to be in a relationship with Carol Marcus.
You know, Wrath of Khan never says whether or not Jim was there when David was born. Or even around when he was a baby. Most secondary sources have had them splitting before he was born.

Do we know what year it's supposed to be in the second season of SNW?

IIRC, 2260.

Well that's just your opinion. Some people like the book (obviously)

Again, he isn't writing the series. So it really doesn't really matter what his taste in books is.

He may or not be there right as he's born, but TWoK heavily implies Kirk has had almost zero involvement in David's life. David barely even acknowledges him as his dad.

It could inform (or disinform) his interpretation as an actor.

Actors can have a large influence on the characters they portray. Norman Lear had envisioned Archie Bunker as the same sort of unlovable asshole as his British counterpart, Alf Garnett, but Carroll O'Connor had no interest in playing him that way, and made him ignorant, but by no means incorrigible. Likewise, as M*A*S*H went on, Alan Alda shaped and molded Hawkeye Pierce: at one point, he flatly refused to do something, insisting it was something Hawkeye would never do, even though it was something Hawkeye had done in an episode from a much earlier season.

And of course, Patrick Stewart is an Executive Producer of PIC.

Doesn't mean I wouldn't watch "Star Trek: The Lieutenant"; about the only ST series I'd refuse to watch would be the (thankfully still hypothetical) Section 31 series. (If I want to watch a TV show about a secretive government agency whose very existence is largely unknown, I'll dig out my Get Smart full-series DVD set!)

Even better that its main character is Space Hitler, who we... are supposed to like now? I mean, she was nice to Michael Burnham, so we can ignore all the genocide and eating Kelpians and all that. No biggie.

He doesn't know until the Genesis cave. "Why didn't you tell him?" But he knows who Kirk is.

Everyone loves Loki know. And he killed Phil Coulson. To say nothing of however many people died in New York.
