Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Yes, even the lowpoints of The Book of Boba Fett were better than TLJ or TROS. :p
Actually, The Last Jedi had the only pure brilliant moments in the entire sequel Trilogy. Pretty much every scene with Mark Hamill was gold, but specifically the points where he called out the old Jedi Order for being responsible for their own downfall were amazing. His confrontation with Kylo Ren was epic.

Rise Of Skywalker and The Book Of Boba Fett were both watchable but blatant examples of corporatized Disney trying to keep to the SW formula slavishly and getting very stale, after the drastic re-shoots of and box office flop with Solo and other huge risks with TLJ and Rogue One (which was also reshot at almost the last minute).

At least Rogue One and The Last Jedi felt like proper movies with their own voices (and got much better on rewatch).

Rise of Skywalker is the only truly disappointing Star Wars movie, IMO. Granted, I was initially disappointed with Solo, but I'll admit, it does get better on rewatches. Rise of Skywalker on the other hand has nothing of value to it at all, and even rewatches can't redeem it.

I still find it enjoyable, but yeah, it was disappointing. In my opinion, the principal problem with it is that Lucasfilm backtracked on what Last Jedi was trying to do by listening to angry fans online.

To be blunt: fans should be ignored. They're not where the money is.

My main problem with it has mostly to do with rather than organically ending the trilogy and naturally wrapping things up, they just ended everything abruptly and conveniently simply because "it's the third movie, that's where trilogies end."

Also, they tried treating Rey, Finn and Poe as an already developed team, despite the fact this was the first time we (the audience) saw all three of them together.

TROS is the worst Star Wars movie by a mile, no competition. At least TLJ had the Force Ghost Yoda scene, Luke telling Rey about the history of the Jedi and his final sacrifice at the end of the film.

My only big issue is that Canto Bight really needed another pass in the writing phase, as do some aspects of Poe’s arc in TLJ. But for the most part, I like the message of the movie: failure is the best teacher. The Resistance fails hard here. But they live to fight another day. Too bad that other day (TROS) was just so…so… forced. But it is what it is and eventually, despite what Kathleen Kennedy is saying, there’ll be another trilogy someday. Hopefully it’ll be more cohesive of a story.

It took the trash fire that is TROS to make TLJ look so much better and watchable and thanks to IX will never, ever be the worst Star Wars movie of this century.

LoL! You’d think by now the moderators would tell us to get back on topic. :)
Anyway has anyone compared the starcharts shown in the show with the books? Im curious if they match.

I think TLJ is the second best movie after ESB, if only counting the Skywalker saga movies. If we're counting Solo and Rogue One as well, it would be in Third.

TROS I will probably never watch again. I only own it on blu-ray because my collection was incomplete. I bought it on heavy discount though.

Anyways, maybe we should get back to SNW.

I don't know if I'd go that far, but it is certainly better than the fandom makes it out to be.

Getting back on topic, I don't think NuTrek should jettison serialisation altogether with later DSCO seasons and the next post Picard show in light of SNW's success, just changed serialisation with no apocalypse mystery arcs (which is getting tiring) linked by more episodic stories (though DSCO dabbled with that more than Picard has done).

And I already find DSCO's S4 the most morbidly underrated set of episodes since ENT's S3 (or the high points of TNG's S2).
