Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

And yet huge ships, like the Enterprise-D, can stop to an almost instantaneous standstill from full impulse. Why is this a problem now?
It's all about how it looks, not the actual physics involved. People don't question it until something looks strange to them.
Why do you hate trauma?
Disco s4 inadventently made characters revealing their secret trauma into a running joke and Picard season 2 is heavily focused on it as well.

Just watched the intro again and while I always thought the visuals were great, the theme has really grown on me. At points it really sounds like... eh, if you squint, kind of eh, John Barry-...esque. I like how the theme is quite playful in echoing the TOS theme, whilst each time making a slight variation on it, before we get the payoff in the last few bars with a direct echo of Courage.

It's really cool. The Enterprise looks shiny. It looks and sounds adventurous, exciting and fun. Very cool theme. I think as we go through the season more may be convinced of that.

I was like that since Sunday.
I finally caved about 10 minutes before the shows dropped.

Ok so it turns out that Crave FINALLY dropped the English version during the night. Why they opted to put the French info up well over a week in advance eludes me.

So I watched it this morning.

And I liked it quite a bit.

I thought it was a competent first episode. One focused on a tight group of character to begin with, which is a good idea. The plot was relatively simple but effective. The dialogue was ok but not great. But those are all expected from first series episodes.

I don't have any particular negatives, and a number of positives. The designs and sets are pretty great, and the episode made me chuckle a few times, which is good. On the whole I'd say it certainly feels more like Trek than the more recent outings. If it stays this course it could be a very interesting series.

So apparently I was reading one of the reviews and they spoiled that PIKE HAS A WIFE!!!!

She's clearly a girlfriend.

Second thoughts on the review:

Love the opening, glad they included the good ol' monologue. I'd rather binge-watch the rest, but I didn't want to have to avoid spoilers for the next couple of months.

We're yet to see Hemmer but so far, as I expected, La'an is shaping up to be one of my faves on this show.

Yeah, the nature of Pike and Captain Girlfriend's parting conversation made the relationship clear, if nothing else did.
