He's pretty close to Jeffrey Hunter. The brooding way he looks and behaves in that shuttlecraft teaser footage is so "Cage."
I'm extremely biased. Pike is my favorite character in Trek.mean I seriously disliked very early Jean Luc Picard, but hell he ended up being one of my favorite characters in Trek (certainly my favorite lead).
I think his somber moments really feel connected Jeffrey Hunter's Pike (more so then Greenwood's and I really liked Greenwood as Pike), but I don't feel him so much on lighter hearted moments, but Hunter's didn't really have much light material to him, so I can't judge how he would have played that type of material.Funny.
I think he very much like Cage Pike.
I liked Hunter's as Captain more then I liked Shatner. But I never cared much for Shatner (minus a a handful of performances) on Trek. As a kid (probably around 74) is when I found out that the Menagerie was actually from a separate Pilot, that never progressed, and I got really bummed by it.I'm extremely biased. Pike is my favorite character in Trek.
"They can't just recast the same character with an actor with a completely different appearance or of a different ethnicity! People will notice and it'll destroy credibility and canon!"

I felt the same way.I liked Hunter's as Captain more then I liked Shatner. But I never cared much for Shatner (minus a a handful of performances) on Trek. Which version?I'm extremely biased. Pike is my favorite character in Trek.
Good answer.All of them.
I like Hunter, Greenwood and Mount.
Are we discovering some unwritten rules about Trek characters?Gawd, the drama going on in fandom at the moment…
Admiral April as a POC?
Chapel as a bisexual? (Maybe?)
Sam Kirk as a Starfleet Officer?
All of that is great and I’m thrilled for inclusion. If you can’t get past your own prejudices to see a show where everyone has a voice, maybe you should find another sci-fi franchise.
My biggest question is: Is it fun? The answer seems to be a resounding YES! I am stoked for Thursday!
Are discovering some unwritten rules about Trek characters?
Edited. My bad...I feel like a word is missing in this post.

Maybe he pulled a Crusher and left for Starfleet Medical. Except this time when he came crawling back to the Enterprise the new CMO didn't just meekly give up the job like Pulaski did.I'm getting really excited for this, I've really like everything I've seen so far.
The one thing I'm a little confused on though, is M'Benga as Chief Medical Officer. I was always under the impression the M'Benga on TOS was a younger, newer Doctor, but now here he's the CMO before McCoy. Or is this maybe the TOS character's father?
As an Asian I have very mixed feelings about Kyle being Asian and the implication this is the TOS Kyle. @Nerys Myk said in another post that this is just a new Asian character also named Kyle, but unless it's his first name Kyle isn't an Asian surname that I'm aware of and there's no point in naming him as such honestly unless to basically say he's the TOS Kyle. I want better Asian representation in my shows but not at the expense of contradicting the previous established canon of another character.I’ve always looked at Star Trek fondly for giving voices to those who are not white cis hetero males a voice. Even if am a white cis hetero male. You can’t have a future where everybody gets along if prejudices don’t die.
No, just a broad question. In Trek fandom I feel like there are unwritten rules about characters or Trek's settings and I don't know them because I didn't watch a particular show or episode. I remember feeling that way about Star Wars when I didn't know something. I feel like there are parts of Trek lost to me because I missed something. Was that directed at me? I’ve always looked at Star Trek fondly for giving voices to those who are not white cis hetero males a voice. Even if am a white cis hetero male. Or maybe I'm overthinking it.

I had a Japanese oral surgeon whose middle name was Wendel.Well, since Colt can be an alien name, in the 23rd century I'm sure Kyle can be an Asian name.
