Wasn't that later retconned in some of the tie in media as the result of a recalibration of the warp scales, too? The Farenheit vs Celsius vs Kelvin of Warp Scales, as it were.

OR TOS is CANON - TNG et al aren't...
(IF you're going to argue/claim canonicity - you need to back it up with a line from one of the Trek series or films...that's the way 'canon' is argued. )
