Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Swinging back to this...

1.1 - Teleplay and directed by Akiva Goldsman

Akiva is a shit writer/director, so I don't have high hopes for the season opener at all. Hopefully it exceeds my expectation.

1.2 - Written by Henry Alonso Myers and Sarah Tarkoff / Directed by Maja Vrvilo - has also directed for Picard and Discovery

Myers is a fantastic writer largely responsible for The Magicians. Sara Tarkoff is probably best known for being a writer for Arrow.

1.3 - Written by Akela Cooper & Bill Wolkoff / Directed by Leslie Hope

Cooper wrote for Kuke Cage, The 100, Grimm, and many other series. Wolkoff wrote for Kipo & the Age of Wonderbeats, Once Upon a Time, Star Wars: Rebels, Tron: Uprising, etc.

1.4 - Written by Davy Perez & Beau DeMayo / Directed by Dan Liu

Perez wrote for Supernatural. DeMayo has written recent episodes of Moon Knight, and The Witcher, and prior to this was known for The Originals.

On the whole, lots of people with experience in SF/fantasy writing for this season.

He has some big lows but a few highs as well. I'm cautiously optimistic.

A Beautiful Mind is a well-regarded film. I think A Time To Kill and Cinderella Man are okay. Notably none are SF. But his best genre work was probably I Robot, which isn't saying much. He's been involved in a ton of mediocre box office bombs as well.

There's a new sneak peek as well...

The Discovery character Paul Stamets already has a Shuttle named after him less than a year after his 23rd century "death'? :ack::rofl:

Why not? I don't see the issue.

Also, maybe it's named after the real Paul Stamets ;)
The latter is a possability; but as to 'Why' on the former -- What did the character do that was so noteworthy publicly? (The Spore Drive and his involvement was/is a Federation star state secret on penalty of death.)

Just on the drive, he was working on stuff before that.

Plus he was given a medal in a very public ceremony at the end of Season 1 for his involvement in the ending of the Klingon War. Really hard to hide that.

they keep teasing the TOS theme in all this footage, I really wonder if the SNW theme will just be the TOS theme, or a slight varation of

After getting 9/10 of the way through S2 of Picard, I've had a realization of sorts:

I would pay real money for SNW to not touch ANY sort of time travel with a ten foot pole. Let's get back to being Star Trek rather than Time Trek.
agreed but even in TOS, they had several Time travel adventures.
