Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

It's bad for labor conditions and fandom spaces, this "lol whatever" attitude is the sort of shit that lets abusers into positions of power. Fuck that shit.

You'll get what you get, and life will go on.

Ah yes, masturbating to the status quo of abuse in the face of a simple comment hoping fans and production crew do not have to deal with an abuser. Very cool. Very mature.

Then do what Shatner told you to do all those years ago, forget about Trek and get a life. Just because someone isn't "nice" doesn't make them an abuser. That is quite a leap...

Indeed. I'm not sure how we jumped to "abuse" (a rather oft used word nowadays) but it makes little sense to me.

Are you accusing BillJ of masturbating? Because that's not the sort of posting behavior we like to see around here, thanks.

You beat me to it. "For God's sake, it's just a TV show!"

Life is too long to elevate douche bags to prominence, honey.

That's rather a bungled aphorism - the logic of "life's too short" is that it requires prioritization. If life is "too long" it requires fewer choices.

I'll put myself down as another one who doesn't care much about the character of performers and artists. It's certainly nicer if they're,well, nicer.

Obviously it's the business of the folk who are in charge to concern themselves with providing safe and appropriate work environments. Let 'em do that.

I'm hoping that Jeff Russo won't be doing the music for this one. I find his music very bland and uninteresting. I'd prefer someone who can write more epic and adventurous music.
I wonder if they'll borrow themes from the Kelvin movies, since the "Q&A" short featured "Enterprising Young Men" and other ST'09ish music.

Crossposting this:
Going by An Obol for Charon, Such Sweet Sorrow, and Q&A, which are most likely tHe sources that will most influence this series, the principal crew of the Enterprise under Pike as of the late 2250s, which is probably when the series will start, is as follows:
Una/Number One (XO/Navigator)
Spock (Chief Science Officer)
Vincente Nicola (Communications Officer),
Jamila Amin (Helm Officer)
Trina Mann (Tactical Officer)
Louvier (Chief Engineer)

If you throw Boyce into the mix, you've got a fairly evenly distributed mix of gender representation, with an ability to bring in more diverse representation as deemed desirable or necessary.

I'm not sure if they'll keep the minor guest stars as main characters. Not saying they won't, but I suspect they're more likely to come up with new characters who are intended to be main characters. And I will not be at all surprised to see Kirk at some point.

The music is definitely the weakest art production link in this franchise. Outside of the nostalgic leitmotifs, there is just nothing there. I'd even take McCarthy at his most banal over Russo at this point.
