Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

I want M'Ress. Don't care how that works continuity wise but color be interested if we bring her in.

I don't mind this as long as they don't make her look like the cats in the recent Cats movie. Those were creepy. And also not like a furry. Now thinking of it it might not be so easy to make her look good and natural and not awkward and unbelievable. Maybe if she would be totally CGI, but that is too expensive for a regular character.

Hmm... M'Ress always wants to go on away missions, and then wants to be beamed back immediately upon arrival.

She prefers Jeffries Tubes over standard quarters.

Twitching Andorian antennae are particluarly bothersome for her discipline.

Dilithium crystals have taken on a pungent odor since she came aboard.

Spock is always trying to pet her.

I'm hoping that Jeff Russo won't be doing the music for this one. I find his music very bland and uninteresting. I'd prefer someone who can write more epic and adventurous music.
The Disco and Picard end credits are more adventurous, do you like them?

The Disco theme is amazing. The Picard theme is pretty good. The rest of the music, meh. But, really, I haven't heard any distinctive, cool trek music since WoK

I like Discovery's title credits theme a fair bit... until the point in which I think I'm expected to really revel in it -- the TOS motif -- and then the ending just falls totally flat for me. It doesn't work for me at all. I think I'd rank the credits above all the rest save for DS9 and Voyager if it weren't for that. Sadly, it pushes it down a couple more spaces.

Picard's title credits theme is pretty great. I think it's more successful in tossing in the TNG motif at the end than Discovery's is with TOS. But...

I think the end credits themes for both shows are pretty dang good!

I am psyched they are going the episodic route. With only 10-13 episodes per season they should be tight. I am hoping for a cliffhanger for each season's finale. TOS end theme needs to be in this because it is implied cannon.

I forgot, Is this going to be the one new show I can watch with my youngins? Optimistic, episodic = no worse that Star Wars in the things little kids shouldn't see or hear category?

M'Ress? Ever seen the Cat Nurses off of Doctor Who? quite belivable with makeup. .. ( and give the Furry people something to go after.. ew)

I forgot about M'Ress. Now that you mentioned her I want her as well. I would also be down for a Prime Universe version of Andorian Thelin.

Something like "I'll believe it when I see it"...?

Maybe, yeah, it's almost quite in the right direction, but "Ich glaube es, wenn ich es sehe" is a bit less 'diplomatic' or 'poetic' than the saying I used in my earlier post...

So too many pages to browse, but was wondering: You think that Kirk will be made a first officer of the Enterprise at some point in the show, and did anyone else come up with this possible prediction? Would that be a retcon of established canon as seen on any point in the franchise? If or if not, I'm guessing at some point they are going to do that, and make it as an easy reason as to how Kirk got command at the end of Pike's second five year mission.

I hope they retire the Discovery aesthetic during its run and go with more TOS looking ships, like the Saladin and a TOS Miranda Class. Maybe even some of the STO designs.
And I hope the show's production designers remember this is a 2020 vision of the 23rd century and not a 1964 one.

So... elephant in the room... Are we going to see the same-looking Klingons or are they going to take a page from Picard’s Romulans and have “northern” and “southern” Klingons?
Diverse Klingons would be good, just like we have diverse humans. Trek could do with 'realistic' alien ethnicity worldbuilding for a change.

"Its enduring resonance is a testament to Gene Roddenberry’s vision for a future where diversity and tolerance are encouraged and in which inclusivity and equality are the norm.

So its about time we fans handled the notion of diverse Klingons without having a fit of the vapors

Interesting to see who they cast as Boyce. In the new novel with Pike last year i believe Boyce was still the doctor. So assuming he will still be on ship.
I hope they make Boyce an Andorian or Tellarite female, that will stir shit up! The senior officers are too human heavy. If they stick with human male Boyce, give him a male partner that he is looking forward to travel the galaxy when he retires. And add female, Thelin as Chief Engineer.

I hope the show's remit is not to simulate a hypothetical season of Star Trek 1964, no matter how much some fans might want that.
If they do I will not be watching. If I want a show that lacks diverse characters there is always Midsomer Murders
