Spoilers Starfleet Academy General Discussion Thread

They have already filmed the finale, they were filming it during the red carpet premier thing so they'll have to hope they can get people back to create a new or additional ending. Maybe they're still under contractual obligations until the show is officially over? Still could be a bit of a rush.

Karim and Gina both mentioned that the sets weren't being taken down yet, iirc.

A plus most certainly. Would be a great shame for the show to get cancelled considering it is perfectly designed to last just 4 seasons and wrap itself up.

If we're super duper lucky the new management will let it keep going until they're ready to release their reboot so they don't have a gap in Trek content, it'll probably take them a couple years anyway so it could line up that Academy will reach its 4th season and end with their graduation.

But are we ever that lucky?

That would line up with the agreement that was made for Superman & Lois, and the Superman film, as I understand it.

I want to push back on this point a bit (gently, though). "Everyone [...] loves T'Challa" now that Chadwick Boseman is gone. But despite the critical acclaim, Black Panther is still, to my memory, the first MCU film to fail to break into the IMDb Top 250, and it's hard not to feel like racism is the reason for that. There's a whole corner of Spider-Man fandom who bristles at the idea of calling Miles "Spider-Man" (I don't think they're a large group, but they get real loud sometimes). And ask John Boyega about some of the awful things that were said about him when his was the first face to appear in The Force Awakens' teaser trailer.

IIRC, while the U.S. box office for Black Panther was ecxellent, international lagged - mostly because few people in Asia cared to see a movie with black leads.

Of course, a large amount of under the radar fan stuff on social media are accounts based abroad pretending to be Americans.

I love that she’s rocking a frickin’ Omnichord of all instruments, but damn, I’m really not sure about the singing.

If season two does indeed end on a cliffhanger, I have a big "Ffffffuck you!" for whoever decided to do that. Cliffhangers on uncertain-future shows is an asshole move.
I generally agree, but would say it ultimately depends on the kind of cliffhanger. If there’s a lot of stuff that gets wrapped up, but they end on an ominous scene of Nus Braka not being dead after all or something like that, then I could certainly live with that. But yeah, if cliffhanger means they don’t conclude a bulk of their main stories, then that has all the potential to really suck.

I remember Armin Shimmerman telling the story of coming to the lot the day after DS9 ended production and taking a peek into their old sound stage only to see the sets were already almost completely struck.

If the show gets prematurely cancelled, there’s the very real possibility that whatever cliffhanger ending S2 might have will be rewritten/reshot, just like the endings for DSC, LDS and PRO were rewritten, and like how SNW will adapt to their truncated 5th season.

It all depends on what the new owner Ellison wants. Paramount was losing money. They just bought Warner Brothers. They are going to be looking to make a profit now. SFA is not a money maker. Filming isnt just money kts also time. The new owners of Paramount are rumored to want either a new movie that is a total reboot with a new crew or a new crew taking place in the prime or Kelvin timelines. The shows themselves are not garnering viewership. There's a good chance Kurtzman won't be given any more newtrek to work on before his contract expires this year.

I guess it depends whether anything is better than nothing for them while they formulate their reboot. Not being privy to their finances or their exact data when it comes to how their subscribers fluctuate it's impossible to say.

Well they have better shows like Landman and Tulsa King. Landmam gets 8 to 16 times the viewers SFA gets depending on how SFA is doing in any given week. Those shows just have better writing and aren't getting bogged down in too much relationship, love triangles and messaging. They are just trying to entertain. Kind of a breath of fresh air. I suspect they could go more that route in programming future shows and movies. Look at old shows like The Sopranos. Fantastic writing and people didn't walk away feeling like the producers were pushing messages. Just a pure entertaining and interesting show.

Godzilla/Monsterverse?
DCU?
Aren't really Sci-Fi.

Also, WB doesn't "own" those IP's.

A total reboot isn't likely to make them money since Trek's "money making" comes from it's existing fanbase.

A new "post Picard" show might be able to, depending on how they go about it. But one of the things they'll need to do for that is go back to releasing on network tv so they can get those licensing deals.

Warner Brothers does own DC comics and the and all the movies Warner made. Warners actually owns DC 100%. Comics and movie rights to those comics. Youre correct they don't own Godzilla Toho does but warner owns the distribution rights for the american version of godzilla.

They might do a post picard show but not with Kurtzman in charge. Hes too interested in. Romance soap type storytelling rather than a pure star trek show.

Not likely. The new owners will likely want to do their own thing with new people they select. Especially with Ellison in charge. I feel like Starfleet Academy would have to be a huge success to get renewed. Even a modest success wouldn't be enough. Kurtzman's contract also ends at the end of 2026. Not sure they would renew again like they did in 2021. Might also be why Academy was given two years. Those two years end when his contract ends. Assuming they are already filming season 2. It's as if Academy was his big shot to prove to the new owners he should be renewed again after 2026.

ya the new owners are trumpers

if starfleet academy does get renewed for season 3 the trumpers will most likely just change almost everything and have like right wing hollywood celebs on the show

A reboot of any kind will just not have my time, I don't have it in me to commit to something that wants to take away a continuity I love just because they want to do their own thing. I just won't engage with it at all and it just won't exist in my eyes. Even if it weren't made to not offend trump allies, there's no room in my heart for a reboot.

I personally wouldn't consider that a cliffhanger.

For my money:

Jack Crusher meets Q - Not a cliffhanger.
Will Riker says "Mister Worf...fire!" - A cliffhanger.

:)

If it were up to me, I'd say combine TNG, DS9, and VOY together in a show about the proposed premise of the Enterprise J where it's a city ship on a far from Federation space exploration mission in a new galaxy.
