Well played.

Because the shows are in competition.I dont understand this need some people have to pit the shows in competition insread of viewing them as complimentary to each other. It's all Star Trek and I enjoy almost all of it.
That's quite far from the point being made here. They aren't in competition with each other for fan's affections.Because the shows are in competition.
Do you think they tried to cancel Prodigy with half it's second season already produced for no reason? What about cutting down the episode count of Strange New Worlds final season?
Didn't up the count from being just a movie to six episodes? What about cutting down the episode count of Strange New Worlds final season?
And yet they cancelled a show about Starfleet Cadets going to Starfleet Academy to make a show about Starfleet Cadets going to Starfleet Academy. That's quite far from the point being made here. They aren't in competition with each other for fan's affections.
Now on an executive level all shows are competing with every other current and potential future show because only so much programming can be made but this is by no means purely an intra franchise fight. It is not as if the cancellation or truncation of a Star Trek show has been to make way for another, we had 3 or 4 shows airing back to back for nearly an entire year.
And then this is further complicated by the impending change in management who could come along and cancel anything, successful or not, because they want to rebrand. The unceremonious death of the Arrowverse was down to network implosion and I am yet to get over it.
Nope, it was a full ten episode season that got cut down to six.Didn't up the count from being just a movie to six episodes?
They are not.Because the shows are in competition.
The two shows are vastly different and normally if one show is cancelled to make way for the other they don't wait 5 years. That's not how competition works. And yet they cancelled a show about Starfleet Cadets going to Starfleet Academy to make a show about Starfleet Cadets going to Starfleet Academy.
No it was a wrap up streaming movie first then six episodes.Nope, it was a full ten episode season that got cut down to six.
Was it? I thought Paramount wanted to ended it and offered them the movie to close out the show. Goldsman and Meyer said they'd need six episodes. Paramount then said sure. And yet they cancelled a show about Starfleet Cadets going to Starfleet Academy to make a show about Starfleet Cadets going to Starfleet Academy.

Yup, that's the way I'd heard it as well. And I think they were even lucky to have gotten the offer for a closeout movie in the first place. It's a miracle they managed to argue the budget up to six episodes. Was it? I thought Paramount wanted to ended it and offered them the movie to close out the show. Goldsman and Meyer said they'd need six episodes. Paramount then said sure.
Actually Discovery and Academy do take away from the rest of Trek. They are not.
One can watch both TOS and ACADEMY with no issue. One doesn't take away from the other.
You don't cancel a show who's episodes are already mostly produced and ready to air to save money.Prodigy was cancelled because it got low numbers, period. No sense in throwing good money after bad. It was competing with ACADEMY, though it seems clear that "no one" is watching any new Trek and discussions are based on our ideas if Trek, not what is actually happening.
Academy was greenlit by Paramount in March 2023, Prodigy was cancelled by Paramount in June 2023.The two shows are vastly different and normally if one show is cancelled to make way for the other they don't wait 5 years. That's not how competition works.
Not really.Actually Discovery and Academy do take away from the rest of Trek.
Because of The Burn.
Oh, ok.You don't cancel a show who's episodes are already mostly produced and ready to air to save money.
No they don't. The Burn and DISCO/SFA are so far in the future their impact on the rest of Trek is negligible.Actually Discovery and Academy do take away from the rest of Trek.
Because of The Burn
Not really.
I disagree, and I'm not the only one who does.No they don't. The Burn and DISCO/SFA are so far in the future their impact on the rest of Trek is negligible.
The majority doesn't mean much to me. A story is a story and in my humble opinion should be enjoyable by itself not in light of future events.I disagree, and I'm not the only one who does.
Which is the entire point, what might not effect one persons enjoyment of a thing can effect others.
I do get the argument that these shows ostensibly belong to a shared universe and that it'd be a courtesy to try to respect (or at least, avoid treading on) pre-existing works... but the Berman shows already fucked TOS over, and then sequentially fucked each other over.I disagree, and I'm not the only one who does.
Which is the entire point, what might not effect one persons enjoyment of a thing can effect others.
Your's or mine's personal enjoyment is very different thing than the shows' impact on past shows. Unless they do a show that ties directly into a past episode the "impact" is miniscule. For example, the Klingons' status in the 32nd Century doesn't change a thing of what we know about the Klingons in the 22nd, 23rd or 24th Centuries.I disagree, and I'm not the only one who does.

Some people think TWOK is a so-so movie. Doesn't change my mind it's superb Star Trek storytelling.
Opinions are only as valuable as the weight one gives them. Hate one Trek and love another but in the end, it's just a take.
