And why would they do that?

This is Star Trek. Everybody knows it doesn't have anything to do with the Mormon church. And everybody also knows LDS could stand for pretty much anything.

I mean, the Mormons didn't bitch about Kirk's line in ST IV ("I think he did a little too much LDS"), did they?
Humor, it is a difficult concept.

Late, but I liked the tie in to Lower Decks and The First Duty. Although it kind of ignores that they got a fellow cadet killed and tried to cover it up.

I'm hoping the meta plot makes sense, because Nick Lorcano being behind some kind of Lower Decks rebellion seems a bit strange. lol

What is an "official" abbreviation?

I'm thinking, Locarno is looking for former Starfleet officers because he is searching for disgruntled people. Crusher would be unlikely to join him given she is trying to avoid dangerous situations (trying to raise her son). I doubt Seven of Nine would be interested in any rebellion, but an appearance would be funny since she worked with Tom Paris so long it would be weird to not reference the resemblance.

Tom Riker, after an unknown amount of time in a penal colony, might be ripe for the convincing to join whatever Locarno is building. If they went full steam with Locarno acknowledging the similarities with Paris, it could be a way he and Tom Riker could bond. Somebody decided Locarno was irredeemable, and so he never got a chance to make amends. Paris basically committed the same error/crime, and went on to join a terrorist group, but got a cushy penal colony gig, a non-provisional (why was that the case with him and no one else from the Maquis? Never understood that one) reinstatement in Starfleet, a wife, a child, and a legendary career.

The more I'm sitting with this I honestly can't imagine that they're bringing NL back (in a season long arc no less) just to have him be a jerk. OTOH, you don't put him in a room with Mariner (and then put THEM in a room with everyone else) just to have him be "right".

Ahhh LD (<== That's the abbreviation for Lower Decks, BTW - although LDX is a charming alternate like Disco) you have set up quite the tightrope to walk. It's OK, Star Trek fans are easy going and forgiving.

Is anyone else unreasonably relieved that the Klingon crew from wej Duj is alive? Especially Ma'ah?

Yes.

An episode with ties & callbacks to Lower Decks, First Duty, and wej Duj would seem to be fantastic, and it was.

Throw in Corbamite Manuever, Tholian Webb, and The Escape Artist and some jibes at Star Wars and it was wonderful.

Where is LDX coming from now? The official abbreviation is LDS

I thought it was LD.

Any abbreviation is really only meaningful in terms of the community that uses it. The most obvious emergence of an abbreviation that was not part of production is TOS--that has only been retroactively used to describe what was just Star Trek. On the other hand, VGR seems to have been the in studio abbreviation for Voyager (confirmed by Larry Nemecek), not VOY or ST:VOY. Discovery is, of course, a mess of options: ST: DIS, ST: DSC, DISCO, and of course the fandom menace preferred STD. I prefer the LDX abbreviation because, yes, it is distinguishable from the Church of Latter Day Saints and, yes, because it comes out phonetically closer, even if production uses LDS. LDX has the benefit of sounding closer to "lower decks," x linguistically combining k and s sounds. It also helps to conform it to the three letter designation that a lot of people like.

Of course, do what you want (so long as you are understood).
