This was aggressively okay. But not "average means 5/10" average, more "average means 7/10 average" if that makes sense. I will say M'Benga's character seems to be more focused on the Klingon War than him being a doctor sometimes, but I don't know how to feel about that yet. I'll have a more definitive take after seeing what they do with him next season. Still, I enjoyed it. I will also say, people seem to hate Pike's lax captaining style, but I think it's interesting to see since it's a nice difference from the other Treks (at least the ones Ive seen so far).
I'm not one to remove things from personal canon but there is a 1% air of sadness watching Lower Decks or Prodigy knowing they're only a few years away from all the Picard stuff. That being said I still wish they lasted long enough to see a different show take on those events.

This is supposed to be a completely off-the-books mission. So, how is Pike going to explain the loss of a shuttle to Starfleet?
Also minor detail, but I liked the use of a viridium tracker, like the viridium patch in STVI.

Shrinkage, give Scotty and Pelia access to the parts bin and they'll build a replacement.
