I can't be the only one who thinks the information broker has a striking resemblance to... Christopher Walken

:guffaw::guffaw::guffaw:

It's true! Can't stop laughing! Can't unsee it!

Regarding Tuvok and Ro... keep in mind that this show takes place about 15 years prior to PICARD season 1. So there is definitely a possibility we can see Tuvok or Ro.
So they’re hunting down Beverly, who at this point has a preschool aged son. This might be the point when she returned to Earth with Jack and Jack had a chance to go to school in London.

I think there’s some sort of twist with Locarno. Maybe it’s rescuing an alive Sito, which I certainly hope. Note that he didn’t actually kill anyone directly. He just kidnapped them and stranded them on a hostile planet and persuaded the Lower Deckers to mutiny. Who knows what Nick has been up to in those 10 or 15 years. Maybe he has some Maquis buddies or got some intelligence he plans to act on with Beckett’s help. I don’t think it’s as easy as that he’s a straight up villain. In my head canon, he’s Tom Paris’s identical cousin. Their mothers were identical twin sisters, who are estranged so Tom and Nick don’t know each other well.

Like I stated earlier, cousins can look very much alike.

Here's Joerg Sprave of the "Sling-Shot Channel" meeting his long lost cousin he hasn't seen in decades.

Everybody tells his cousin that he looks like Joerg, they check their family tree after meeting up and realize that they are actual long lost cousins with IRL blood ties.

Did you ever see a picture of Tsar Nicholas II and his first cousin King George V? They both looked like their mothers, who were sisters, and they looked very much like each other. If we assume the mothers of Nick and Tom were identical twins, they’d look that much more alike. They would also be within a year or two apart in age, so they would have been at the Academy together.

I gave this episode a 9. Damn near-perfect. The episode finally addressed Mariner's issues, it ties into a legacy series, and I like the twist. I do wonder why Nick Lorcano was not allowed back into Starfleet, given the fact that RO LAREN was allowed back into Starfleet...TWICE. I do hope that, and whether Nick is related to Tom Paris, is addressed in the next episode, as well as finally putting the nail into the "Mariner-has-PTSD-narrative" coffin, and then laid to rest to allow our "Lower Deckers" to grow. We still have "Evil Boimler" lurking out there, which can be addressed in Season 5 of LDX. However the series ultimately ends (I am hope for at least 100 episodes before the show's conclusion), I hope that we get a satisfying resolution to our characters' respective stories. After all, looming a few years into the future, LDX timeline, is the Hobus Star incident, as well as the burning of Mars (thanks the the Synth Uprising).

Keeping them dead is the consequence, a reminder of the people who died because of Starfleet's failure.

Just like Ross and his statement around the people dying on the Dominion War. A grim reminder of what is necessary.
Interesting point of view. The thousands or millions who died in the Borg taking the Fleet would be particularly lessened by 3 people not dying after all. Or dying and returning. Or whatever.

Who is the feeling of consequence for? The audience?

Edit: just to be clear, I'm playing a bit of a devil's advocate here. I don't think resurrection is a great storytelling device. in small doses, sure. With the tedious double resurrection of Data, and one for Picard too in the show these stories were featured, it wouldn't be a great choice.

It might be interesting to get more story about Sito, but I think something special about the episode would be cheapened.

I've been thinking about whether this would blunt the TNG LD episode's impact too. I can kind of see the reasoning that it does...but...the way that particular episode ends, we never see a body. It's not implausible that there was some kind of subterfuge on the Cardassians' part that means she was captured and not killed. Obviously, this is a worse fate for her. I am willing to wait and see what the deal is. If it's just a name drop this episode, I'm fine with it; I'll appreciate the "Lower Decks Symmetry" that connects Sito to Mariner. If it turns out she's alive, then whether or not it feels cheap will depend a lot on how it's handled. One thing the people who make LDS have shown is that they take the franchise seriously (as irreverent as the show is) so at least for now they get the benefit of the doubt.

Episode 9

Really looking forward to this one.

Tremblelizard!

Mariner being a big damm Hero there- well it sorta worked out!

Targetting ex-Starfleet heh?

Thomas Riker!

Locarno is a pilot for hire now?

Sherbal V looks dangerous

Fiddling with the buoy?

Emergency transport got better.

Humm.... who was the Big Guy heh?

Uniforms have pockets? Explains where all the tricoders come from.

Dodgy bars are dodgy everywhere.

"teach me how to tap dance Beverly Crusher"

Glass storm!

"You wage war on yourself"

Sito was an Academy friend of Mariner? Sito on the Enterprise? Murdered by Cardassians? That's a call back to 2370 and of course the Lower Decks episode.

Sito Jaxa was born 2347, and graduated the Academy in 2369 after having to repeat a year due to that Starburst manoeuvrer, so let's say Mariner was a First year in 2368 when Sito was 3rd year, that means Mariner graduated in 2370, making her an ensign in time for the Klingon-Federation war and Dominion Wars.

Heh... Mariner was at the Academy the same time as Harry Kim. Ironically, she has been an Ensign longer than even Kim.

Mariner confirmed as a Dominion War survivor- that explains a lot.

Klingon hug! Nose boop!

Information broker looks familiar?

Good speech there Mariner - you can be inspiring!

Tendi timing!

Nice plan there Freeman - good use of the cosplaying Engineer.

Klingons and the Destroyer ship working together....?

How strong is Ma'ah to pull up deck plating? Or is those old Bird-of-Prey's so weak?

"It's my ship now...."

That interior looks very Discovery!

Locano is running the Destroyer ship?? WTF?

TO BE CONTINUED? Noooooooooo!

Good episode- really enjoyed that one. Looking forward to the conclusion.

This!

I've been trying to figure out ages. Because Nick looks rather old. Whatever the ages he'd be within a few years of Mariner, yeah?

Definitely.

Great episode! Not much I can add to what's already been said. Loved the scientist respecting the creatures he studies until they could get to him!

Poor Mariner. She makes a lot more sense now. Her generation seems pretty messed up. My hubby mentioned that her disillusion with Starfleet going to war instead of exploring echoed Edison in Beyond and I realized it reflects the unending military vs. explorers debate in fandom.

Great to (again) see Carol being smart. That whole B plot was pretty funny.
