My first ever post - be gentle
I gave the episode a 9, I really enjoyed it. Nice to get some backstory to Mariner, gives our annoying but loveable rogue some context. And so good to see Freeman thinking a few steps ahead for a change.
I really like the callback to the series' namesake TNG episode, the whole situation with Sito Jaxa always resonated with me. And how the muddied narrative made her fate uncertain. Did Joret betray her? Or was her exfil merely compromised?
Is it conceivable she is alive? Perhaps, could have been beamed out of the escape pod before it was destroyed. But I think that would lessen the original TNG episode somewhat. I suppose I'm just worried they'll bring Sito back as a "quick fix" for Mariner's issues, I think that would be a mistake. Let her address and work through her issues like the rest of us do.

Years ago, when CHEERS was on the air, I worked in a Data Center. There was a guy from some department who used to bring down punch cards to read into the batch processing. He looked EXACTLY like Ted Danson. I found out two days later they were first cousins.

Just to clarify my earlier post, I was talking post-Picard Ro. The Founder/Shapeshifter MO was to take people, hook them up & probe their memories to use for advantage. Keeping them alive even after they had been replaced. That is how Tuvok survived. As a Starfleet Intelligence Officer, there is a rational reason for the baddies to keep Ro alive.
As for Sito, her death was always open ended. I mean, it looked bad. But again, there is a reason to keep her alive (info) AND a reason to make it look like she is dead (so no one comes after her). For me, 15 years in a Cardassian camp does not cheapen anything.
As for Shaw. He is dead. Shelby looked bad, but is not impossible. Ro had a real connection to JLP (and Riker, they slept together). She is different. And Sito has a connection Mariner & Lacarno.
I just don't but Locarno as a baddie. That wasn't who he is. He isn't killing anyone. And is clearly still thinking about his Nova Squadron teammates. Sito is likely driving it. It cannot be Wesley. I guess it could be Hajar, but presumably there is no Mariner connection there.
I get the idea about pushing back on folks not staying dead. Spock. Kirk. Elnor. Data. Picard. But plenty of people do: Tasha, Jadzia, Tripp, Hugh, Hemmer, Icheb, Shaw, Kirk (the 2nd time). Pike cannot escape his fate.

Yes, but I don't count that. That's just a very good impersonator.
The others like Tom Riker and Seven had full on copies of them still roaming about. (Or melted away later, in the case of Seven's copy.)
In fact didn't they say they could swear if they wanted too, nobody was stopping it, but that it was way funnier to bleep everything out.

Ensign Sito IS alive. However, she has nothing to do with Nick Lorcano's project. I think she was secretly recruited by Section 31, and that she was the one to recruit "Evil Boimler". After THIS episode, I suspect Mike McMahan will be deep diving into a lot more LDX lore than just with this series, firmly tying past series to THIS one.
