I would say a 9, but I'm giving an extra point for "Fortunately, I was raised on Vulcan. We don't do funny."
Actually, I think this is the perfect example of what's wrong with the dialog in the show.

"Fortunately, I was raised on Vulcan." Is the joke. The extra bit is superfluous and unnecessary and completely kills the timing. It the thing that frustrates me the most about the show, because it's such an easy fix. And cleaning up the dialog beats would go such a long way of greatly improving the show's snappiness - and I think make Burnham much more likeable for a lot of people.

Gave it a 7, which ties it at the lowest ranked episode of the show.
They could have at least saved Jacob, who was the sanest of the bunch, who instead is now doomed to live with the knowledge he has amidst this religious weirdos.
Positives: I like Tilly's imaginary friend

I dunno, I felt that line fit fine

3. Pike pretty quickly rationalized using the spore drive, against orders

I forgot about that scene. It was pretty weird. It made it sound as if Pike had no idea whatsoever the Spore Drive was on the ship up until that point, which would be shocking. But otherwise who would they be explaining things to? Certainly not the audience, since we knew about it already.

Possibly the people who jumped onboard for Season 2 because of Pike and Spock and hadn't binged Season 1.

Between the quick-but-efficient recap of S1 at the beginning of "Brother", the roll call for the crew in the same episode, and the explanation of the Spore Drive here, you really could get by watching this season without watching last.

They were "Black Alert!"-ing all over the place.

Meanwhile, I'm still enjoying Tilly immensely. She has a big personality; that's what makes her fun.

I love Tilly too! I'm just a little self-conscious about her saving the ship and such. Maybe it's more anticipation of what the detractors will complain about, rather than my own actual concern.

Boy, Mount is delivering the goods. There were a couple rough patches in this ep that I've largely forgotten because he was so compelling.

We had some Treknobabble creep in, so I was pleased the resolution involved more than adjusting the deflector and gravitating the gravitrons. Though the suggestion that the spore drive can be navigated by a tardigrade, a human and now a space rock was goofy in the extreme.

Tilly's dead friend was pretty Lynchian, which I liked a lot. But Tilly as the youngest ever in the command whatsit? That seems like quite a stretch.

Feels a little preachy, but that’s been a weakness of this show all along.

I suppose it will turn out that the Red Angel is some sort of alien species that was trying to preserve the humans from World War III by transplanting them to another planet and/or that earth conceptions of angels and devils are based upon this species. I’m not sure why it’s interested in Spock or how he came to see it when he was a child, but I hope the writers gave it some thought.

I do think it makes sense that Spock has checked himself into a psych ward. He isn’t particularly stable at this point in his life, as seen in the original series as well, and Lord knows Sarek and Amanda clearly had multiple issues. I don’t think this family is representative of Vulcan so much as it is a story about one screwed up Vulcan and how he screwed up his wife and children.

Agree with you wholeheartedly on Pike/Mount. Damn entertaining portrayal.
