I'm going to go with an 8. I like that Pike's father was both religious and a scientist. Also interesting that Burnham and Owosuken have never been or seldom been to a church.

I've been to a church exactly three times in my life. When my mother died and at two weddings. As a half-Iranian, my father is Muslim and my mother was Christian. I wasn't raised on a religion but they decided I could choose my own faith... but then I ended up not choosing a religion. While that's basically where it stops with me, and I'm only Agnostic, my brother is a hardcore Atheist. All of this used to lead to some interesting discussions...

One time my uncle (who's deeply religious) told me if I didn't believe in God, then it meant my mother was in Hell. I really had to hold my tongue. You don't try to force someone into believing by talking like that. My father is more open-minded, luckily. Though he believes a type of energy leaves your body when you die.

My thoughts about different religions (besides "I won't know until I die and I'm not in a hurry to die") are that they either can't all be true or, if they are, then they were interpreted differently. If they were interpreted differently than all could be true and it makes sense that all religions are represented in the Church on New Eden.

Great episode. This one drew me in much better than Brother. Looking forward to learning more about this angel alien.

Excellent episode. Hopefully they continue giving Pike more of the leads. His final beam down to planet was terrific. No one else could have played that scene as well as him.

There was more use of the crew in that episode than the entire first season.

One thing in writing irked me. The overexplaining sometimes. Like when they men tioned wwiii and bernham explained what that was “like everyone in the room didn’t know what World War III was”. Over exposition for i guess what they feel are new viewers not handled well.

If they were from Earth, the Prime Directive doesn’t count. They should be allowed to tell them everything.
They explained that it counts since they left Earth pre-warp.
I'm not sure what specific rule you are quoting (that it doesn't count because they are from Earth), but maybe that rule was different in 2257.

That was great. I think this was a solid 8. Last week was insane and a 10 but this was slower paced and more central plot focused. I really enjoyed this. I actually wanted more of Pike, Burnham, and Owosekun but can't have all the focus there I guess. I like that some things were answered right away but we got several new questions and unknowns to deal with now. The Tilly stuff really has my attention though. I wasn't totally sure if they were going the way they were going until the end.

Pike has pretty much decided Burnham is his First Officer right? He's bouncing a lot of ideas off of her and asking for her input. I'm loving it but just want to make sure I'm reading this right. One of my theories was that after this season she's going to be captain (that was always the plan I believe but I think this is how we get to that) and the final push will be Pike's recommendation based on his experiences with her. Once she's in the chair she's still going to be learning more because being ready to take the seat doesn't mean you stop learning. Just a new phase in the story.

No Mormans as well.

Galactic Federation is something I imagine them having by the 26th century. With nearly a half of the galaxy under their control. So far it’s only a very small portion.
Yeah, but I don't think Pike felt that was the time or place to get into a detailed discussion of the extent of the Federation with Jacob. Like I said, it was generally descriptive enough for Pike's purposes.
