Perhaps you missed the fact that Spock left the information in his computer in such a manner that ONLY his Foster Sister would know how to find it.

Think back to when they first met...
How did he create the alien dragon...
He used his fingers to literally PULL it out of his bedroom computer.

Now think about how Burnham got the info out of the Enterprise computer in Spock's quarters.
:techman:

Those are all BIG jumps in logic. That Spock would know that the Enterprise would rendezvous with Discovery, that Burnham would still be on Discovery, that Burnham would want access to his quarters considering they weren't on speaking terms, that Pike would grant said access. Spock is just a creature of habit.

Don't try to explain it, because then I'll start thinking about the holes and it will ruin it.

Pike was great, the new enginner looks like they might be a good charactor, rest of the crew i still can't seem to be interested in, the Burnham charactor still not taking to, effects as usual were top notch, story was ok, but i was screaming to
visit the Enterprise in more detail, that would have put this episode up another 3 points at least.

So 5/10 for me this one, did ok but there is room for improvement.

I rather doubt it is all that convoluted.
Even without Pike ending up on the DIscovery, once it becomes apparent that Spock is missing, Pike would inform StarFleet and a search would ensue.
Eventually, Pike would contact Sarek to inform him of Spock's absence and by then somebody would have gone through Spock's quarters and found the message about the hidden data.
But even then, only Sarek or Michael would have known how to reveal the information.
Just because the story as written skipped all the extended drama of Spock being missing, doesn't change how the info would have been obtained.

And Amanda. And for all we know, that is how standard Vulcan computers work, and any Vulcan computer expert could've cracked it in five minutes.

Sure it does, it is one hell of a coincidence that everything falls into place for Michael Burnham to be there to open it at the right time.

What happens if Pike had determined there wasn't enough time for Burnham to go digging in Spock's quarters, or decided to respect his privacy? If Spock wanted Burnham to have the information, he could've just sent a time delayed communication to her.

If the trailers are any indication, he doesn't seem too happy to see her. Which flies in the face of him wanting her to find the information.

ever considered how boring one kojak episode would be in real time? and how long?

Disliked immensely that Burnham was going through Spock's things, that it a real level of disrespect for someone on leave.

It was clearly implied that Pike gave Michael access to Spock's quarters after she insisted on still visiting the Enterprise even after learning that Spock was absent, so she definitely had clearance to search the way that she did.

This is, therefore, just you being hung up on things.

I suppose he could have assumed that Pike would figure out how his art hologram tablet works and thus the information was quietly left lying around for him, but Michael happened to show up first and happened to be the first person to see the message he left behind. Spock Prime was usually the type to think two steps ahead if he believed he was going to be absent from the ship for an extended period, such as when he left Scotty in command and instructed him to carry out a specific set of instructions should he not return before a deadline.

Yeah, the whole thing starts to fall apart when you analyze it but if his intent was for Pike to eventually get curious enough to enter his quarters and find the message then it works. At this point humans have known Vulcans for almost two centuries and Starfleet has dealt with Vulcans and Vulcan technology for close to a hundred years so I can't imagine it would take too much work for Pike or Number One or both to figure out what he'd left behind and interpret it properly.

My problem is the supposition he left it specifically for Michael Burnham. There's simply nothing in the episode that would lead me to think that.

Yeah. That would be a problem.

If he'd first made psychic contact with her, fine. Then she could have picked up on the feeling that her foster brother wanted her to see something but she didn't know what. But the two have had no contact for years prior to Season 2 of DSC so, yeah, that's a stretch to say the least.

I know it is a standard trope, still doesn't sit right with me.

Probably because he isn't dead or missing, but on leave.
The fact that he is on leave is an alarm bell for those who know him, because he is Spock. And one doesn't have to be dead or missing for someone to look through or touch things belonging to them. When a spouse or child is away it's not unusual to go their room and try to get a sense of their being. Especially if there are unresolved issues.
