Voq wasn't too bad, either. Which allows us (or at least me) to think that T'Kumva specifically was famed for two things: being an outcast for being physically or mentally unfit much like his key followers; benefiting from this by having unconventional access to skills and technologies the pure Klingons would shun; and his fanatical devotion to the Klingon unity cause.

Really, Kol looks down on T'Kumva just as automatically as he does on the albino Voq. And Kol starts speaking more fluent Klingon when not addressing T'Kumva - the painfully slow initial output might be in mockery of T'Kumva's infamous speech impediment.

Oh, Christ. Or Kristos. Or whatever. :p

#Metoo. Unless they're in Klingon. (But full points to Netflix for including those!)

    A strong '6'.

Some things worked for me, others didn't. Tone and pacing were vastly improved.

I'm cautiously optimistic about season two based on this episode.

I found the Spock family drama fairly unengaging, though I think Mia Kirshner is the perfect Amanda. Enjoyed the science officer getting it, the addition of Jet Reno, the overall more adventurous plot. Tilly and Stamets were good, as always.

Disliked immensely that Burnham was going through Spock's things, that it a real level of disrespect for someone on leave.

    Fair enough.

Yeah the family drama stuff was neither here nor there to me too, scriptwriters always have to add a bit of angst even when it isn't actually needed, much improved from last season though.

Tilly and Stamets are always good for it and Reno looks interesting, especially liked the bit at the end with the fragment.

Must admit I was also happy to see that Science Officer kiss his ass goodbye, didn't like him at all and we obviously were not meant to, seems everyone got over his loss pretty quick so they didn't like him either.

Did not mind Burnham going through Spocks things as he is missing and they are going to try and find him, pretty standard approach when looking for missing people and he obviously left it behind for someone to find.

Unless I'm missing a crucial piece of dialogue (which I could be as my hearing isn't what it once was), he was on leave. A leave he requested. He isn't missing unless he doesn't return when he's supposed to.

Or cannot be contacted while on leave, assuming he didn't file a "do not try to contact me" special request and there's no Starfleet regulation that'd allow Pike to overturn that request afterwards...

The impression I got from Pike is that he was worried and hesitated to tell Burnham about it early in the episode, once they had made the possible connection of Spock to the Red Anomalies Pike gave her permission to go over and see what she could find, I have only watched it once so I may have missed something.

It felt warranted while I was watching it and didn't feel incorrect or inappropriate to me.

Pike looked worried as soon as any mention was made of Spock, it was written all over his face.

He himself admitted that Spock had not handled the order to stay away from the war well at all, just like Pike himself.

Plausible deniability. Pike's not going to get in trouble for rummaging through Spock's stuff.

Awesome episode, gave this a 9. Hoping to see more of this.

I was expecting the red shirt to get it. Was kind of funny that she didn't.

Funny what a difference a shift in tone and pacing can make. Even Burnham came off as less stiff and more likable.

She was definitely better but I do think Anson Mount acted her off the screen, that could just as easily be due to the script though and her Vulcan upbringing so I don't really blame the actress for it.

Perhaps you missed the fact that Spock left the information in his computer in such a manner that ONLY his Foster Sister would know how to find it.

Think back to when they first met...
How did he create the alien dragon...
He used his fingers to literally PULL it out of his bedroom computer.

Now think about how Burnham got the info out of the Enterprise computer in Spock's quarters.
