She’s my fave.
There’s a certain unmistakable storm cloud hovering over her, though, for sure. Like, in terms of these totally-new TOS characters, I fully expect Ortegas to live a long life, but La’an… not so much. :/ At least they’re nicely allowing her to conquer her demons and move forward more happily with the time she has left, if so!
I could still see a heroic end for anyone not seen in TOS or later (especially Ortegas, although once again I hope not, for pretty much the same reasons).

It would be kinda odd if SNW does that given that Star Trek Continues did the exact same storyline, albeit a platonic friendship, with Spock and Dr. McKennah.
It’s an easy enough sort of thread to see developing, so I’m not surprised at different productions/writers dealing with the same character coming up with such. I think the old J.M. Dillard novel (The Lost Years?) did something similar, too. I wouldn’t be surprised if others have.
They could have the opportunity to do an interesting reprise of the set up from Relics with La'an or Ortegas.
For example, we see them sacrifice themselves and then freeze themselves in the same/similar way to Scotty and then they are revived on a Starfleet Academy field trip in the 32nd century in Star Trek: Academy. Which would also give YouTubers an opportunity to make some Buck Rogers titles parodies too.

Well, they could do that with any deceased character — but that way lies madness, or at least Marvel/DC.

We're talking about characters currently being performed in a 23rd Century setting, whom we've not seen in any of the future settings. Now we presume that they either go on to live and die in the late 23rd/early 24th century or they die in SNW before the finale, but it's just a hypothetical other option, whereby the crew of the Enterprise think they're dead, but they're actually frozen or suspended or whatever until found/revived in the 32nd century.
It's just the germ of an idea. Not the most original (as I say when I recall back to Relics), but if I were in the writer's room (across both shows) I'd try give it a full ponder and see if I (or someone else) had a story for that character in 32nd century.

Maybe not, but it is one. I’m not faulting the idea, it’s just that the (already long established) precedent of bringing back dead/seemingly dead characters can lead to the eventual death-revolving-door problem unless the writers make sure to Just Not Do It Again. It hasn’t yet in Star Trek, but I suspect that’s more because the actors of dead characters have to get paid again if they return, whereas nobody has to pay the Martian Manhunter or (heaven forfend) Jean Grey.
EDIT: Nor do I have any problem with the basic idea of a character showing up in a future era, in itself; I’m actually quite looking forward to The Last Starship. It’s just that it would be very easy for that to start sliding into more and more dead or “callback” characters being transplanted there, if mainly for “hey, neat!” value.

Yeah, but at least there they made it an actual plot point (and metacommentary: “Yeah, Bridge Crew Main Characters come back on Star Trek, and you’re not even important enough to know why!”), so that gets an affectionate pass.
Interesting how some of the 3D renders look appropriate for Discovery's 32nd century setting, while the sketch-like ones of the Ready Room nook would feel at home in mid-2150's Enterprise.
