STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY Series Begins Production in 2024

Shhhhh...please no.

Maybe another version of the Avengers... like, "THE ENSIGNS". Every ensign comes to save the day.

Harry Kim and Nog... wait, he got promoted.

Harry Kim and Chekov... wait, he got promoted.

Harry Kim and Ezri... wait, she got promoted.

Harry Kim and Wesley.. wait, he got promoted to another realm.

Harry Kim and Tilly... wait, she got promoted.

Harry Kim and Boimler, Beckett, Rutherford, and Tendi. So... HARRY KIM AND LOWER DECKS it is!

If I talk to non-Trekkies, I want to be able to describe the shows as "this is on a space station. This is on a lost ship on the other side of the galaxy. And this one is at the Academy".
I DON'T WANT to have to say "this one is set a 1000 years after this other show, which otherwise looks & feels identical, which is set 10 years before the 60s one, but 100 years before the other show that just ended, that looks & feels a little bit darker and has more old people on it, but is otherwise also weirdly similar". That's just nasty.

Did you feel the need to explain TOS is set 300 years in the future? Or that TNG, DS9, VOY are 100 years beyond that and, yet, ENT is only 200 years in our future and 200 years before TNG even though it was (at the time) the most recent series produced? At what point did their non-Trekkie eyes glaze over?

Since we are talking about non-Trekkies, do you feel the need to explain the time period for any other series? Non fans don't care and fans will understand.

I feel you. Except for SNW I'm not much of a fan of any Trek produced in this era. Still, I'm looking forward to exploring this new century. It's a clean slate and will be interesting to learn about the state of the galaxy.

Crossovers? Continuity? At least they have DISCO to draw upon. What else is there? The era of Trek that we grew up on is being retconned and rebooted left and right. Had they set Academy in the 23rd Century, it would still have crossed over with DISCO era seasons 1 & 2, and SNW. Setting it in the 24th Century would set up PIC crossovers. The member berries and nostalgia only go so far and, ultimately, even more of our era of Trek would be retconned and rebooted.

Well yes, back in the 90s I had to explain more than once that TNG takes place 100 years after TOS, and that's the reason why Picard and Kirk can't work together (no need to mention both take place in the future). Then it became massively now complicated with ENT.

But right now? The current status is honestly hilariously fucked.

Star Trek fans must be intellectually superior to Star Wars fans yet must also be stupid and handheld because reasons

----point------>
you

We were talking about pitching Trek shows to our NON-Trekkie friends to bring them to watch it.
Which, you know, gets more complicated the more fucked up and difficult to understand the lore for newcomers is.

If my mom, who loathes science fiction, can follow the alternative universe shenanigans of the Kelvin movies against the TOS show and movies I think people interested in science fiction may be able to follow it with limited assistance.
