I've got my fingers crossed for the latter. I've always wanted a movie-era series, it's my sentimental favorite period of Trek. Just in the last few days this fan-animation of a movie-era version of SNW had been circulating, and it honestly looks exactly like how I'd expect them to do it (though I rather they made only the most subtle alterations to the TMP design, if any).
