STAR TREK: STARFLEET ACADEMY Series Begins Production in 2024

SYLLABUS: FIRST WEEK

  1. How to Get Along. Your seatmates will likely look, smell, and sound very different from you. Don't stare. Don't sniff. Reach out! They could by your new best friend or future commanding officer! Win respect by offering it first!
  2. Transporter Facts & Myths. Yes, it can make a clone of you. Yes, it can transport you to a parallel universe. Yes, it can split your personality in half. Yes, it can remove your clothing. It can also save your life and end awkward conversation. It is a miraculous machine when maintained properly and used wisely!
  3. Paging Mr. Garak! A well-tailored EV suit will keep you alive in lifeless environments. Learn how to wear yours and regard it like you would your own skin. And learn how it cleans itself after a bout of space sickness!
  4. Rank and File. Learn the hierarchy of Starfleet. Study the chain of command so you know who to follow and when to lead! You won't be a Cadet, Ensign, or Lieutenant forever! Move up the Starfleet ladder to boldly reach those stars!
  5. Location. Location. Location! Learn where you are in relation to your neighbors in space, and where they are in relation to each other. A background in astronomy is useful, but if you're Sirius about interstellar exploration, then our introductory course to the Alpha Quadrant is a great place to start!
  6. Talk is Cheap! Not everyone is a Hoshi Sato or Nyota Uhura, but when the Universal Translator is down we'll show you some tips to keep the dialogue flowing to prevent an intergalactic war!
  7. Waste Not! We've come a long way in biological waste extraction. Learn the most efficient and private ways to find relief in any environment. Pass it on to your pets if you have them!
8. And just in case you are wondering....you're in the space army/navy/spaceforce there will be no debate on the matter. We explore and shoot shit at the same time!

First time in a century?

Post Disco show? Doesn't excite me as much as 24th/25th century Trek or even set in the early years of the Federation - like maybe the first class of students in the new Federation era of 22nd century.

Also hope this isn't our version of a CW teen/young adult drama.
That wouldn't bother me, personally. The suits clearly want a Star Trek for everyone, and if this appeals to the teen/young adult fan base, all the better.

I am especially eager to see it if Tilly is involved. Considering her role on Discovery and how it has developed, that may be the case.

I am certainly going to give it every chance.

I'm so excited for this show!!! Smallville was rubbish and amazing and trashy and wonderful in equal measure and this will be too. Plus, it's a Disco spin-off so it'll be super gay. In fact I'm gonna call it now: First Trek with an LGBTQ+ lead.

Red Squad can be the preppy a-holes. Nova Squad the d-bag jocks. Inevitable episodes of utter chaos, outbreak of war etc that turn out they were beamed into the holodeck overnight and it was all a test. Kobayashi Maru is mentioned a minimum of four times per episode. God awful cringy inter-species anatomy gags. Missions to space using whatever leftover Disco/SNW ship sets they have. Classroom sets. Plotlines where someone leaves the academy and joins the local Maquis equivalent but it's really a Section 31 spy mission. Stealing the Enterprise or Voayger-J from dock to save the day because none of the adults believe the kids that a Klingon/Borg/whoever attack is immanent.

Gah, I love it. I need it.

Now we get to see the Academy.

I really REALLY hope it's not set in the 32nd Century, though. As much as I like DSC, the time period is really as uninteresting as it gets, and I'd much rather see a late 23rd Century to early 25th Century setting.

I think this is the best way to move forward. Star fleet is starting over practically from scratch in the 32nd c. And I thought the 32nd century setting was fun and fascinating. I'm kind of less enthused with Picard era myself.

That far into the future we can at last see intergalactic travel.

I might end Discovery on a dark note…one person left on a bridge…a flash jump cut—-then having the set assembled in a quarry and a lone manikin with the set lined with high explosives.

Class begins with a recreation of the Battle of the Mutara Nebula in place of the ‘Maru scenario…maybe remnants discovered.

The Burn isolated some far flung areas that regressed…something the early post TNG animation (square saucer) was to touch on…so plenty of stories. You shoot last season first—where Discovery’s loss is solved…keep that in the can just in case.

Oh, you outdid yourself here!

I think this could be really good. Teens and young adults are so full of potential for both good and bad, they're ripe for good drama.

Meet the cast!

More Trek is all right by me! :luvlove:

PAGING COLM MEANEY. WILL MR COLM MEANEY ANSWER THE RED PHONE?

I remember this show! It even had the actor Jonathan Harris (Dr. Smith from LOST IN SPACE) starring in it. Then, they replaced it with JASON OF STAR COMMAND, used the exact same sets, and implied that it and SPACE ACADEMY were in the same continuity.

I'm looking forward to this one. There's a lot of interesting, unexplored territory in the 32nd century, and most of the characters created for the streaming era have kept my attention pretty well so far.

.
Pretty much everything made so far has been targeting the under 25 market.

Contrast that with Andor, Orville, The Expanse and For All Mankind who are clearly targeting a wider range of audiences. For whatever reason paramount thinks they can deliver a tent poll show while bypassing 80-90 percent of the possible audience.

My main reason why I hate Academy being set in the 31st century is because I'd like to have some cohesion to the Trek verse, like there was in the 80s-00s.

I want side characters to be introduced in one series, and then appear in another. I want new aliens & concepts to be introduced, without having to pretend later that the other shows knew of them the whole time. Hello, I want fucking team-ups!

If I talk to non-Trekkies, I want to be able to describe the shows as "this is on a space station. This is on a lost ship on the other side of the galaxy. And this one is at the Academy".
I DON'T WANT to have to say "this one is set a 1000 years after this other show, which otherwise looks & feels identical, which is set 10 years before the 60s one, but 100 years before the other show that just ended, that looks & feels a little bit darker and has more old people on it, but is otherwise also weirdly similar". That's just nasty.

It truly baffles my mind, that in the age of interconnected franchises & IPs, Star Trek, which had all of this since the 80s, is the one that is now continuously fractured and split up on purpose, without reason.

Aside from Prodigy I would say this is not accurate. Picard and Discovery, maybe early on but now less so, especially Season 3 of Picard and Season 4 of Discovery. Lower Decks is full on for TNG fans. SNW is somewhere in between and Prodigy is the only one aimed at the younger demographic.
without reason.
The reason is for each to be distinct and appeal to different segments of the audience rather than assume everyone wants the same thing.

Already in Strange New Worlds from Discovery, soon to be in Starfleet Academy and Section 31.

Remember when they reused the Soong Golem in Discovery season 4? Remember the Romulan Warrior Nuns?
Hello, I want fucking team-ups!
It's only a matter of time until they do a Defenders-type thingy.
