Because those images will remain static throughout every season. Beard Riker appears more times than smooth face Riker, so he’s the default.

I wouldn't hold my breath on there being too many novels. In recent years there's been a serious shortage of new Trek novels being published. Indeed, a TOS novel due out in December is already being plugged as The Anniversary Novel.

I would say we could look forward for a movie but in 17 months, hell no. I'll have to imagine that Academy show will make a commemorative episode.
