I honestly have found some sort of enjoyment in all of the seasons of Streaming Trek. Every season has had its high points and low points. At the end of the day, this is my opinion. Of course, YMMV.

I prefer the shorter streaming season length, personally. 22-26 episodes is a lot - sci-fi shows were able to handle it better but some regular dramas became utterly ridiculous with that season length. I completely stopped watching any non-trek network tv shows years ago. I have studied english literature for a long time and it reminds me of serialized novels - something that ends up at 900 pages could have been 200. This is where the episodic trek series shine, because it was like 20 little movies but when you're trying to have a plot, it becomes kind of annoying to have a holodeck episode.

Don’t trust the reviews, it’s probably the best marvel D+ series yet

Okay, here's a reminder of two facts in plain sight:

    1) Jack is the younger brother of someone who became a Traveller.
    2) Jack is the son of an ex-Borg.

Just leaving these points for consideration.

10 episodes is the length of the final chapter of ds9.

I miss the longer season and filler episodes, and it’s that lack which means I’m just not as close to the new characters as in the 90s.

But 10 episodes and a single story arc isn’t enough for that type of on going familiarity, and I don’t think modern tv will allow that. Even when it does, the series tend to get somewhat exhausting. Flash for example I found very tedious around season 3-6 with the “big bad” of the season that wins all along until the finale.

Most of my most emotional moments for me personally are from one off episodes or characters. I don't need 20+ episodes to feel a connection.

Shorter also is easier for me because of limited time.

Well, this comic book fan of 50 plus years loved it. Very true to certain runs of the comic. Though there is a certain mind set that had issues with it.
Never would have pegged Russian Doll as a comedy. But I don't follow awards. Comedic elements for sure. Fun show that plays with time loops and time travel, but gets heavy at times.

I assume, that like Riker in Season One, Worf is a reserve officer.

Never had a problem with shows switching between serious and funny episodes. The only exception was with X-Files, where i hated it. Because i couldn't believe many of the comedy episodes really happening in the same universe as the serious ones.

But most of that came down to presentation. Those stories were framed as comedies, but they were often as grim, bloody or similarly ridiculous as the more serious ones.
Music, scene edits, timings of dialogue etc make the comedy or drama

Agreed. While I had a few issues with Discovery seasons 1 and 2, I greatly enjoyed them both. The only season of new Trek that I consider to be a near complete failure is Picard season 2, and I still find things to love about it. I have no problem with animation or with the "fan service" (ugh) of Lower Decks or the focus on younger characters in Prodigy. When people ask me what my favorite new Trek show is, I reply "the one that I'm watching at any given moment".

But, yeah, Picard season 3 is the best season of the new era. By a long shot.

It was more than that. Mulder and Scully for example were often out of character in these episodes and sometimes didn't even act like sane people.

Re Traveler - he only has half of the relevant DNA. If that’s what is important.

Re Borg: literally one sperm cell was all of Picardo’s contribution here. Nanobots in the sperm? And if they’re so important why not focus on Picard himself? He’s got a few zillion more cells to harvest.

Because you mostly know me from the DSC Forum. There are other sides to me.

Picard Season 3 is everything I ever wanted from a TNG Movie. First Contact is my favorite TNG Movie proper. Had the rest of the TNG Movies been like these, I wouldn't have wanted them to end.

Picard Season 2, unfortunately, did a very good job of making me not care that most of the series' original cast was dropped. And yet... I still liked it better than Generations, Insurrection, and Nemesis. So, I knew, heading into PIC S3, that if I'd already seen the worst, and it still didn't make me not like the show, I'd be heading into something really good this time.

Add to those things that Terry Matalas is a fan of the TOS Movies (which were my introduction to Star Trek) and now he's following up on DS9, and they're making good use of Seven being in Starfleet, Samurai Worf, and yeah, it all works. The stuff on M'Talas Prime reminds me of a cross between Blade Runner (my favorite movie ever), The Penguin's establishment in The Batman (my favorite Batman movie, sorry Nolan fans), and a bunch of other stuff I can't put my finger on at the moment, but will probably randomly come back to me when I'm nowhere near the computer.

The character work is top-notch. They've developed every character's POV so that you can see where they're coming from even if you don't agree with them. They have time to flesh this out in a way that they wouldn't have been able to do in an actual movie, so this is actually playing to Streaming TV's strengths.

Then there's the Changelings. Back in the late-'90s, I was one of those people who wanted a DS9 Movie. I backed off on that idea shortly afterwards, since I thought the first six episodes of the sixth season and the last 10 episodes of the seventh season handled things better than a movie could... and it wouldn't be accessible to a film audience, especially having to explain the Dominion, the Bajorans, the Cardassians, and what-not. But here, they've streamlined it: they've kept the focus on the Changelings, rogue Changelings, and all you need to know is that they can look like anyone.

PIC Season 1 took what it inherited from "All Good Things", Nemesis, and what the 2009 Film dropped on them, and ran with it. PIC Season 2, for all its faults, took the unintentional world-building that had been established whenever Star Trek went back to Earth's Past and ran with it. PIC Season 3 has taken a serious look at, "What's been left unresolved? What follow-up is worth following up on?" and ran with it. They've done a lot of digging and took a hard look at what they can do with all of these pieces.

Finally, this season has a very Battlestar Galactica vibe to it. DSC used to have that during its first season, and then it was gone. I'm glad it's back. That tone fits what they're doing here very well.

Perhaps if she'd tried that, the changelings on the Intrepid would have detected it and blasted her out of space?

Me, I'm still wondering why Starfleet can't afford to seek the help of the actual Dominion itself. They said it would risk re-igniting the war, but why? Surely the Dominion wouldn't tolerate renegade changelings any more than the Federation would? Why shouldn't they seek Odo's help?
