As good as both actors were, Picard nursing a grudge over the Maquis knowing that the Cardassians eventually go to war with the Federation for much the same reason the "terrorists" do is a stunningly massive case of hypocrisy. Especially given the episode cites all the times Picard went against Starfleet including Insurrection.

Why does it only need a few people? She felt Shaw and/or Picard couldn't convince all of them?

I can't say as to what the producers intended but for me, having less people is more streamlined, but also cheaper, less cast, less unknown characters. Looks like just a skeleton crew is more intimate and more trusted, the people are known better to the crew, better able to sniff out a changeling imitating someone you know well.

Wasn't the Prime Directive already being thrown out by Admiral Dougherty in the forced Ba'ku relocation and Picard just stopped it from happening? The only way Shaw can claim this is if he viewed the Son'a/Ba'ku feud as an internal matter due to being the same race, but Starfleet had already chosen the Son'a side before Picard came along.

Shaw is an ass and puts the worst spin on everything.

5. Vulcan murdering criminal, with Vulcan murdering criminal henchmen? Not only no, but HELL no. Piss poor use of the species, and a heretical use of the IDIC.!

I think the show was surprisingly clear that the antagonist's grasp on Vulcan logic is complete nonsense.

We're not meant to say "Utopias generate crime" is any kind of legitimate point but a nonsequitor.

He's also motivated by revenge.

Which is weird, because that's where we were twenty years ago. Despite what this ep claims, you couldn't detect a Changeling by scanning them. My headcanon is that's something Starfleet was able to figure out post-war. (...Maybe by scanning their Changeling prisoner?)

That's exactly what seven said..that it started being done after the dominion war.

I had been wondering if these renegade Changelings had been locked into solid form as punishment, as Odo was, but somehow had found a way to regain shape-changing abilities, but through a more inefficient method that left their appearance "chunkier" and left their bodies in a solid state upon death. But, the episode says it's an advancement from 2370s Changelings, so I guess that squashes that theory.

That was just Beverly's theory though...doesn't mean she's right either.

To say nothing of the fact that he knows things he shouldn't... since the events in the Devron system that he described didn't actually happen beyond the POV of Picard and us the viewers, iirc... BAD TERRY, BAD!!

:p

(TBH I love Shaw so much I can even forgive such a painfully obvious error lol)

There's no indication Picard knows those DS9 characters (other than O'Brien of course). But an Admiral in starfleet he knows and trusts makes the most sense.
The doctors could have name-dropped Bashir, as he'd know a lot more about them than those two put together.

Where was it said he had a grudge over the Maquis?

I see no particular need to directly name drop; sometime less (including indirect implication) is more, and preferable to awkwardly 'memberry-ing all over the dialogue.

Yes, but name-dropping Bashir in this case would have made sense, as Bashr had close access to one all the time for seven years.

Again, I’m enjoying this season quite a bit but I don’t really think it’s that different than what we’ve gotten since 2017. I think the key differences are: a lot more legacy characters, lots of Federation starships and LCARS.

I think the difference for me so far is that this story feels more cohesive and interesting. The writing is better. We also see things people enjoy seeing like Starfleet crew members working together to solve problems. Even though the show is called Picard, this season doesn't just revolve around Picard like a lot of Discovery seems to revolve around Michael. It feels like an ensemble in ways that show often doesn't. The pacing also feels better than the previous two seasons of Picard. But let's even just compare the writing for two characters, 7 and Raffi, to the beginning of season 2. Raffi was making comments like "you and 2023 should get a room" and her and 7 were basically wandering around LA with a tricorder, fighting even though their relationship wasn't ever developed, and having a police car chase. The characters have been put to much better use this year.

And I've generally enjoyed all the shows since Discovery.

He held a grudge over RO betraying HIM. It was personal for him.

Unless it's revealed she knows more, based on her statements she doesn't know why the others want Jack. She said not to trust anyone and no Starfleet because Starfleet personnel had tried to take Jack away before. She knew something was off about Starfleet wanting Jack.
That's fine... it's just odd that she doesn't protest when she finds out Shaw called Starfleet and that another ship has arrived to meet them. In fact, she just ignores it for the most part.
