Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Omg I went to the shop to get some snacks to watch some SNW with tonight and guess what I found???????

I have not seen a mainstream product/brand with Star Trek advertisements on in a very long time… yes, these are *yummy* and no, mr Gorn you can *not* have any! :D
Logo looked like Lays'. And a quick google search tells me that like Lays they are a subsidiary of PepsiCo.

Walkers crisps are the biggest crisp/chips manufacturer in the UK. internationally I think that they are known as ‘Lays’. This is a popular snack product in the UK. :bolian:
Logo does look like Lays. I do appreciate their crisps. What's the flavor?
JJ-verse Enterprise though?

I hope that this is officially licensed.
Should be.
Love the Enterprise!

But, yes, it likely is official license because Pepsi, the owner, doesn't need to run afoul any legal trouble.

Prawn cocktail, they are actually usually cheese flavour and much smaller. These are giant and ‘special’.

This is a popular UK variety of potato chip called ‘Wotsits’. TBH I am not eating them myself, I had one. They are high in carbohydrates and I am on a low carb diet at the moment.

I only bought them because they had Star Trek written on the packet. My sister, bro in law and nephew are eating the rest and they all seem to like them. It is a giant packet you see.

I did a google search and got this tid bit of info: "
Next time you pick up a bag of crisps, keep an eye out for a note on the packet - it could land you a month of free streaming.

Crisp giant Walkers has partnered up with new streaming service Paramount+ to offer shoppers a free one-month subscription to the platform. The offer is available via limited edition versions of Quavers, Wotsits, Monster Munch, Sensations, Squares and MAX bags."

Not the flavor I was expecting.

Would have done the same. And did back in 09 with cereal.

They have other flavours… I’m not sure if they only put Star Trek on the unpopular flavours though. I will check next time that I am in the supermarket.

I actually think that it should have been the SNW Enterprise on the packet though, not the JJ-Abrahams verse Enterprise. After all, isn’t SNW the flagship show at the moment? At least until season 3 of Picard.

Maybe they will do Picard crisps/chips one day? What flavour do you think that they would be? I think... ‘old sea salt’. :D

Let’s pick chip/crisp flavours for all of the Star Trek series! :adore:

I think that they are going a bit generic style, since it says Star Trek Universe, not one specific show.

I mean, even if the merger hadn't happened, they probably could have still used the design if they wanted, though I imagine the marketing department sends the food company a bunch of pre-selected images they're allowed to use.

STO was able to use Kelvin Timeline designs years before the merger, and Paramount wasn't mentioned anywhere in the game's credits or legal text, only CBS.
The Kelvin Timeline movies were listed on the CBS Consumer Products website as one of their properties as far back as Into Darkness's release.

I don't think we'll ever get a straight answer as to how the rights worked in the split era, now that it doesn't really matter anymore.

I wasn't sure if it warranted a new thread or just post in here, but SNW debuted a new clip for Star Trek day and revealed that Carol Kane is joining the cast. That's quite a get for a Star Trek series. Loved her in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Also, the clip showed had Ortegas doing a lot more than she ever had in Season 1, which was nice.

It is. I was staring at a pack while waiting in line about 4 days ago and it didn't actually dawn on me how cool it is to see Trek branded stuff again.

I was just, YESSSSS Kelvinprise FTW
That logo appears to be a part of the merchandising push for Star Trek right now.

That little clip showed so much why I love SNW. So many little character beats. Loved Spock’s lines and Ortegas shines. The musical score was quite lovely too!
