Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Yeah, I think nothing short of total and abrupt collapse of the current era of Star Trek would put Strange New Worlds to pasture this soon. While we don’t know the viewing figures, we do know the creative force behind these shows has earned back a ton of goodwill here.

While Picard was a huge dissappointment, SNW has been a really amazing show. The long wait for next seaosn is brutal and agonizing.
"Long wait"? Assuming it comes back spring 2023, as is expected, it's a shorter wait than that between seasons of the other modern Trek shows with the exception of Lower Decks.

Anyone else long enough in the tooth to remember when we didn't know whether a series was being renewed until we were into the last quarter of it's current season? Which in those days, were over twice as long as these fancy short seasons we get nowadays. Back then, we wouldn't know about season 3 until week 18ish of season 2.

Where are my pipe and slippers?

Even Back In The Day, it was never uniform like that. Yes, there were a lot of shows which didn't get a renewal announcement until late in the season, but there were also quite a few shows which could get their renewal at halfway through the season or even earlier. If anything, the renewal/cancellation process itself hasn't really changed that much over the years.

And the hell in most cases, that's what Paramount+ has done after the initial order. I think the whole "two seasons" a few of their new shows got recently was more because of the COVID-19 situation,, and they just wanted to get ahead, and have a Year's worth of episodes for the service. (As an example the new Halo series also got a two-season order out of the gate. And Picard seasons 2 and 3 were filmed back to back.)

After that they've usually waited about 3 - 5 episodes into a season before they announce a further renewal.

The downside of the above of course is the fact that SNW fans probably won't get a confirmation of season 3 until season 2 starts streaming next year.

ENT's cancellation was announced the first week of February in 2005, three months before the finale aired. Plenty of time for the "Save Enterprise" campaign to launch and send picketers to Paramount Studios in Hollywood.

Those were the days, I was naively moderating the Enterprise forum back in the day. I was online when the cancellation announcement was made so got to see the fan reaction unfold ‘live’… the ‘trolls’ revelled in the announcement, it was like some epic orc battle had been won. I went a *little bit* trigger happy with the warn button from what I remember, but emotions were running high on *all* sides. :guffaw::angel:

Yeah, that forum could really bring out some of the worst in posters. That's why people still talk about the glory days there...it could be a real minefield of choosing how far to take your comments! ;)
I had lost count of the number of times I had to remind people not to start flaming wars. Darned ‘shippers were the worse for it. :D

How did things change when S3 and S4 came along? Like when the Vulcans being odd was explained and made sense after that trilogy?

You were handed the controls when I got booted for giving one certified troll four warnings for one post. I refused to reverse them and Lisa cut my strings. Said poster's victory lap lasted about six week before they got the banhammer themselves. Yes, it had been a shitshow and trolls were plentiful. I still love the series though.

Loki is the best of those seven series but yeah, those numbers aren't very big. Streaming shows now would probably give their left legs to achieve VOY or ENT numbers from over twenty years ago.

With streaming though people take time to watch stuff. Those shows listed in the chart will be gaining new viewers checking them out for decades as people give them a shot for the first time. That's why ratings don't matter so much as it is to have tons of stuff on your site to get people to sign up.

Hell, back then I openly went off on a post by Stewey, and at the end of said post wrote something to the effect of:

Yes, go ahead and give me my well deserved warning. At this point I'm so annoyed by his constant bullsit, I don't f*cking care...

(And yes I got a warning for it, which was indeed deserved. )
